Top 5 Quarterbacks Ever At C.U.

I don't know how people felt about Klatt, but I wasn't a big fan. I blame Watson partially, but I also just didn't think he was that great. I'd put Hessler and Aunese over him - I don't know of any old school QBs (the 71 team?).

Klatt is the most overrated QB in CU history. He had possibly the worst pocket presence of any QB I have ever seen. He only ranks really high in the record books because he started for the better part of three seasons, while most other QBs started two at the most.

I understand that Kordell holds most of the records and is the only one with a real pro career, but I voted for Hagan based simply on the fact that when Kordell played your biggest rival (NU) he crumbled. Best in school history types don't do that.

Hagan
Kordell
Detmer
Aunese
Knapple

Honorable mention to Hatcher, who was the QB who got CU back on the map in the mid 80's.

Well, at least there was no Robert Hodge on there, so that's an improvement...

Hagan and Stewart are easy #1 and #2. I suspect there may be some guys out there in the pre-Mac years that belong, but I'd have to think about that...

what's the point of having a list if they are in "no particular order"?

To see who people will pick as a number 1 overall. They're not in any order because I don't want to influence anyone's pick. I do the poll through my site to ensure that only 1 vote gets counted per person and every poll in given in a different order.

All quarterback discussions begin and end with one name Darian Hagan.

- 1989 DH becomes the sixth player to pass and rush for over 1000 yards.
- Quarterbacked 3 straight Big 8 Championship teams.
- Top 20 in Heisman voting 1989-91 and finished 5th in '89
- 28-5-2 as a starter
- 20-0-1 vs. the Big 8. Read it again 20-0-1 vs the Big 8
- And of National Champion in 1990

FWIW in 1989 CU did an all-century teams. The QBs were Bobby Anderson, Boyd Dowler and Gale Weidner. Hard to figure how they compare to QBs playing in modern schemes, but it does seem to me that Anderson has to make a top 5 list at some position...

I considered many of the older QBs but none had the numbers to back it up for a top 5 list. That All Century team you refer to was compiled in 1989 by mostly fans. All of the quarterbacks since 1989 have torn it up in comparison. So due to the fact that they weren't on that list it's hard to know who would've remained with all of this other talent now. Yes, there were some great QBs back then, I just don't think they make the list.

Hagan played on the best teams at CU.. I think Kordell was a better "player" along with Detmer, but you can't argue his accolades.

1. Hagan
2. Kordell
3. Detmer
4. The rest.

And quit ripping on Klatt.. The guy did a lot with a very limited amount of talent around him..

Joel was not the most mobile guy, but before the injury he had a serious gun. he never seemed the same after.

where's Adam Drill? Adam Bledsoe? we could have a top 5 CU qb's named Adam.

Duke Tobin has been and always will be the best QB in the history of Earth.

For some reason I thought Bobby Anderson was a tailback.

CU doesn't have a long history of great quarterbacks. Most of the really good ones were from 1988 on.

And the list really does begin and end with Darian Hagan. After him, it's all academic. Kordell and Detmer were good, but neither had the magic of Hagan.

You mean Donald, right?:smile2:

I know his numbers don't really put him the top 5, but I still consider Mike Moschetti one of my all time favorite Buff QBs.
