Hawk: speculation on my job security purely media-driven

This caught my eye.. :smile2:

Hawkins insisted after Saturday's game that speculation about his job security is entirely media driven.

"The only speculation was from you guys," he said. "There has been no speculation from my boss, no speculation from our big hitters. That speculation came from you guys."

Hawkins was clearly irked by that speculation. The first question in his postgame press conference was about what led to significant improvement from his defense. He answered it with three words and then began talking about criticism he has faced.

"It's easy to stand outside the arena and point fingers and criticize and say you're not good enough and be negative, but when you're in the arena and you're scrapping, you're never that far away from victory and you're never that far away from defeat," he said. "Until you are in the arena, until you've gone through it a time or two, until you've done some things in your life, until you've strived and you've succeeded and you've failed, and you've tried and you've failed and you succeeded, people don't get that."

At least one national media outlet and several other out-of-state publications sent writers to Saturday's game at Folsom Field believing there was a chance Hawkins could be fired postgame if the Buffs had lost. Athletic director Mike Bohn said last week that he hasn't considered the idea and it was much too early in the season to make any concrete judgments about this season's team.

Hawkins said he was proud of his team. He said there were no big changes made, just "little things" that led to the win.

I get so sick of his attitude that you don't have a right to an opinion unless you've coached Division 1 football. I wonder if that's what he tells Bohn. Worse, I wonder if Bohn buys it.

I think Squawkins actually answered the guys' question be "how" he answered the question. Listening to the post-game, he went from a very relaxed personality, and after the guy asked the question, it went to yelling-defensive mode...

So why the transcript of what he said looks okay, if you heard him say it, you can tell he was offended and threatened. So he answered the question, while trying to answer differently.

He's delusional. I refuse to believe Bohn did not share some or all the emails hes gotten with Hawkins. His response implies that he is in fact feeling some heat. The reality is that he's not had a winning season since arriving and the matter of his job security is a fair question. Good to see him finally showing some emotion.

The way he coaches, he's right about half of that!

That quote about never being that far away from defeat bothered me a lot. This isn't the NFL where every team you play has equal resources as you under a salary cap and equal access to talent. This is college football where we have tremendous advantages over half our schedule. We should never be close to losing to Toledo. They're no different than the Kent State program that Iowa State rolled yesterday or the Miami (OH) program we rolled last year.

the correct response in that scenario is: "you'll have to ask my boss, that's not for me to comment on". not being snooty, combative, or identifying a scapegoat (media) or creating the impression that fans are irrational.

Unreal. He talks like he is the only one who has met challenges in life. As if no one else has ever gotten up and overcome adversaries after being knocked down, defeated and bloodied. What a big steaming pile of bull****.

I like how he was all happy go lucky when he had no expectations for the first few years. The pressure is on now and he doesn't seem to like being on the hot seat.

Did you see what OSU did to Toledo?

The idea that there's no speculation from Bohn or the heavy hitters is pure, unfiltered bullsh*t. On the other hand, his bullsh*t is so easy to spot now that we feel no compulsion to believe one word of it.

I'm not buying your bullsh*t, Hawk. Spew it all you want, I'm not buying. Nobody else is, either.

It goes back to killer instinct and his 'play not to lose' mentality.

I find that Hawkins really makes it difficult for me to like...Hawkins.

I don't like "tude...and he has it big time. He reminds me on Kanye West...all mouth.

Agree 100%.

Hawk's had a rough couple of weeks. I'm sure anything he said was a result. I didn't listen to the post game, so all I've seen is what has been posted. Funny. There are those that praised his news conference and those that have slammed it, including Woody in the paper this morning.

Piling on ^^^this^^^. I find it incredibly offensive to get lectured on coming back from adversity when it comes from a guy who has been paid $1 million a year to fail (going on his 4th year). Most people make less than 1/10 what Hawkins does and if their job performance was even close to his they'd be unemployed. Hell, in this economy a lot of people who performed better than him are unemployed from their low-paying jobs. **** him and his arrogance. He's a public employee and he acts like he's above criticism from those of us that are paying his salary and investing a lot of ourselves to support the CU program.

Did you see what OSU did to Toledo?

Yeah, I saw what OSU did to Toledo.

Did you see that Northern Illinois beat the Purdue team that whipped Toledo 52-31?

Did you see that CSU needed a gift turnover last week to beat 1-AA Weber State 24-23?

Don't stop now, you are on a roll!

This **** is starting to eat me up. The thing is, even if he turns this around (which I am almost certain that he won't), I still won't like him because now I think he's an arrogant prick.

This crap about standing in the fire, in the arena, etc. smacks of insecurity. He's setting up this me against the world framework. This is what people do when they refuse to admit failure.

yesterday's win was just a band-aid on a sliced off limb....

I can't think of the last time a team I was rooting for beat a team by 24 points
and my attitude was meh ...

any decent team yesterday would have put 50+ points on the Cowboys-

Me too. That's such a freakin' flip answer.

I'm sorry, and no offense intended for coaches on here... but you're just a football coach! It's not like some sort of high calling or something.

I'm glad CU won yesterday, but I'm still not satisfied with Hawk. And these replies only make me like him less. Ugh.

Don't stop now, you are on a roll!

Did you see that this Wyoming team's only win was a 29-22 squeaker at home against 1-AA Weber State?

Did you see that Wyoming lost to Texas 41-10 and gave up 354 passing yards, which was 28 more than Colorado's 326 total yards? And the Wyoming coach said his team took a step back in our game?

:smile2:

I should call in to his show and let him know that I DID serve in IRAQ and he did not so he should STFU about bringing that up in his BS comments. Until he's fight, scrapped and served in war,it's easy to talk about it on the outside

When you do, remember to lie and tell them you want to suck his **** because he is a god among coaches or you'll never get through the screener.

Yeah, might not be a good idea to call and say, "My name is Syko, can I speak to the coach?"

Go for it! I'm done with that coach who only knows how to TALK!
