Team Speed

Are we really THAT slow on defense or just out of position or both? It was painful watching our LBs and secondary try and keep up or catch WV players. Hard to believe we cannot field some speed on defense. WTF?

The guys in the secondary are not slow. Hell, Chappelle Brown almost ran down Devine on the long run. The dbs (particularly safeties) were just out of position quite a bit last night.

I, for one, would like to see a lot more press coverage by the DBs. Jimmy and Jalil have the tools to play man coverage. They look like **** when they play zone.

I don't know if the injury is still hurting Mahnke, but good god he looks slow. I don't think he could track down Cody in a foot race.

Saw Devine get run down but also saw strong safety wiff on a tackle because he could not get there in time to be in position. A lot of missed tackles because guys were reaching and not in position. The defense is for the most part horrible. Would a new coordinator change the situation?

I think that ESPN was beating the slow angle a little much. Mahnke is slow, no doubt, but everyone else has speed. I think that they are out of position, take bad angles...

Also WVU loves the little fast guys on offense.

I wanted to kill the ESPN crew, even fellow alum fowler, WV speed and CU lack there of was almost all they talked about. But I hear that every game so I guess I'm getting used to it. :sad2:

Word. I just love it when we give a 10 yard cushion when the opponent is on our 5 yard line. At this point I'd rather the DB's spend the week watching film of how Nnamdi Asomugha plays press coverage so they can see how to come out next week and hit the Texas WR's in the mouth. Sure they'd probably get burned a few times but we're getting burned anyway at least we can go down fighting.

fowler loves the Buffs. you could hear the pain and disgust in his voice. he knows the program is supposed to be better than this.

you run non-bcs level players out there and have them execute non-bcs level schemes, backed by non-bcs level coaching and this is the result.

Play up play off doesn't matter. We are confused and out of position. !st WV play would have been a TD if not over thrown. Guy had nobody within 20 yards of him. We all know how the second play turned out.

It didn't look like so much a speed thing to me as the problem being the fact that they are playing reactionary defense. The LBer's and secondary are getting in position and then sitting down, waiting for the ballcarrier to get to them. Ball carrier makes a move and it's all over. That's a coaching problem.

I said last night in chat that Chappell looks slower than last year to me and he does. He has been getting beat consistently in man every game we have played and last night too. I wonder if he is 100%? I watched the Nebraska game late last night from last year. No way Mahnke is healthy, he was much faster in that game.

One of the biggest problems ive seen with the secondary in coverage and in tackling is the angles we take, they are flat bad. Im sorry but that is coaching. I agree that it looks like a read and react type of scheme. I think we should just keep it basic and run to the football. Also, said it before, ill say it again. These guys should be tackling or working on it all week long. I heard Hawk say a few weeks ago they never worked on it at Boise, well that isnt working here. We dont play Idaho week in and week out.

Makes me sick to watch teams with creative schemes, formations and then see us running Pop Warner plays. I thought DH had an offense so complex that Frosh and Sophs can't get it but seems to me it's as basic as they come. With that said, offense is light years ahead of the defense even with all the walkons playing big minutes. Dark days my friends.

We hired the wrong coach from Boise State. They have only gotten better under Peterson and we have gotten worse.

yeah, watching those wideouts jog their way to their spots in the fierce 7 yard out pattern and then watching the qb lob a duck out to the spot isn't exactly fear-inspiring for any defense with speed.

I felt at times like he was almost laughing at how inept we were last night. In some cases not even almost. He was laughing. Not too professional regardless of school affiliation IMO.

Hell - I was laughing at our ineptness

Never thought it would come to this. My only hope is that Bohn will fire DH at the end of the season and is just being PC now in hopes of salvaging something from this season.

Devine and Sanders are hella ****ing fast. They'd create speed matchup problems for pretty much everyone in the US with the exception of probably 5 or 6 teams. I really think our problem last night had to do with scheme. We were usually in the position where if one guy missed or hit the wrong gap, Devine was off to the races. We also seem to get beat in the matchup game all the time. Mahnke on a WR, Smart on a quick RB, etc. The coaches haven't figured out how to get the right guys on the field in the right places, and that is why we looked slow to the announcers, IMO.

Our safties and a couple certain lb's are slow, real slow. The speed on offense stands behind hawk on the sidelines.

And that is what infuriates me more than the losing. PLAY THE BEST PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Put them in positions to succeed. Create schemes to take advantage of their strengths. Stop inserting players that fit the system and fit the system to the players.

The lack of quality of DL doesn't help either. When you got a coaching staff that refuses to properly build a football program through quality defensive linemen, this is what you get.. And that is an indictment on Talkins..

This team is beyond slow. Hell I thought CSU was faster than us and that's saying something.:wow:

DL? Did you say DL? Everyone on any buff board knows my DL stance and recruiting in that area. I think our de's aren't bad but the DT's need some more size and strength.

Then again, bandison and most of our coaching staff never develop these guys and make them better players from their freshman to senior years so why even bother anymore...

Before I registered, I remember reading Syko's posts about DL recruiting and I thought he was probably right but somehow the situation would fix itself, boy was I wrong. He knew what was going to happen when Hypo/Lucas/Nicolas graduated and this is the result. Why they can't hit DL recruiting like they hit the OL is beyond me.

He's a good dude, but his job is to give an honest opinion, and not what he feels in his heart.

Jesus christ - race has NOTHING to do with it. So stfu up about it.
