Why is that?
Who?!?!?!?
The guy who was passed over by UT, A&M, Tech, Baylor, and TCC....
This was a good thing for the program.
If Hawk had been fired in November, Hicks was one of the first guys a new coach would have made sure he ran off. He couldn't play at this level and was hanging on academically by the skin on his teeth.
Hopefully he'll find a better situation for himself and we'll find a better use for that scholarship.
What affect does it have on our APR?
Every scholarship player is worth a possible 2 points. 1 for being eligible/on track to graduate and one for remaining on the team. If he leaves while eligible, he's a 1/2. If he leaves while ineligible, he's a 0/2. If our aggregate APR dips below the NCAA minimum standard, the usual penalty is that you lose a scholarship for every 0/2.
(I need to double-check this, but I think that's right.)
some times your **** gets really tiresome, this guy was offered by:
Tennesse
Purdue
Nebraska
Mizzery
Okey lite
And had interest from:
A&M
FLorida
LSU
He was a player in highschool, he just didn't pan out for us.
We're expected be be penalized 5 scholarships when the APR is calculated this spring and the 2008-09 academic year is put into the numbers. This is why the football team was so far below the 85 limit last season. This was anticipated and we took the penalty early.

So, the 2009-10 school year will have Lagrone Shields, Darrell Scott, and Steven Hicks still to affect our APR for the next calculation? And maybe Anthony Wright?
With Sumler and Lawson also transferring but not until after they graduate.
Sumler and Lawson won't have any effect on the APR.
Well so much for Hawk's squawk on graduating players in his program. I don't see this happening at most other football schools. Yet another reason to dump this guy.
