CU Club Swimming Team Booted From National Championships

Be sure and read about the dandilion spraying protest. http://www.dailycamera.com/ci_14917058?source=most_viewed#axzz0leXPgLAj
Its too bad Boulder is polluted with these dumb**** misfits. It could be a great place to live.

When I lived in Boulder someone witnessed a biker mow down a squirrel in cold blood. I certainly don't condone needless killing of animals. However, I'd argue that the weeks of ensuing letters to the editor of Daily Coloradan (was that the free daily??) on the topic made that squirrel's death anything but needless. In fact, I'd go so far as to suggest that the joy I got from reading those letters made the death of that poor animal a glorious event. I'd even imagine the squirrel went directly to paradise where he enjoyed the affections of 72 virgins.

The final letter I remember on the topic was titled "Where have Boulder's Squirrels Gone?". It began by explaining the Squirrel utopia that Boulder once was, with thousands of joyous squirrels playing in chocolate fountains and whatnot, and then went on to describe the post-apocolyptic squirrel hell that Boulder had become (presumably after robots came from the future and ran them all down on their rocket bikes). The issue I had with the article was that I had troubles opening my front door without a ****-ton of those liitle bucktoothed bastards forcing their way into my apartment. Squirrels were everywhere! I actually had to actively avoid them on my bike to prevent myself from becoming the next topic of letters to the editor! I had nightmares about squirrels!

Anyway, I miss Boulder.

My favorite quote is:
"There are organic ways to do this," said Roz Lynn Dorf, who has owned a condo at the Shanahan Ridge 7 condos since 1989 and is organizing the effort. "What a concept to pull a weed."

It apparently never occured to her to organize a weed pull instead of a protest.

The only thing worse than squirrels is prarie dogs. The plague infested rats of the plains are all over the place here, and some people cant stand the thought of one getting killed. I saw some kook lady out in an empty lot actually feeding the bastards the other day. Who the **** feeds prarie dogs?

I laughed at that quote as well. I wonder how many weeds Roz has pulled since 1989. Maybe while they're lying out there on the lawn they can make a little effort to support their cause??

 ****, I am agreeing with you again. ****ers suck. My dog thinks they are the greatest thing to chase since... well... squirrels tho. If she thinks they are evil, well, who am I to disagree?

nearly three posts on swimming and we are off to dandelions and squirrels and prairie dogs.

You can take the allbuffers out of Boulder but you can't take the Boulder out of the Allbuffers

I suppose CU isn't anywhere near introducing a varsity swim team that competes at the B12/NCAA level.

Six institutions in the B12 sponsor women's programs: Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas and Texas A&M.

Three B12 schools have men's teams: Missouri, Texas and Texas A&M. The Longhorn men's squad has won the Big 12 championship every year since the Conference was formed in 1996, giving UT 13 titles total. On the women's side, Texas earned its eighth overall league title last season while Texas A&M owns three crowns (2007-2008). The Nebraska women took home top honors in 1997 and '98.

"We were really afraid of further damage," Bell said. "They (the CU team) had done irreparable harm to the organization, and we didn't want to give them a forum to further harm the organization or nationals in any way. We worked out a way to (allow them entry into the meet), but in hindsight I wish I hadn't."

It must have been one hell of a letter.

On the other hand, it doesn't sound as though our athletes were completely professional at the event. I'd sure like to know the rest of this story.

It sounds like the rest of the competition were falling in line with CU by swimming by conventional rules and the guy running the meet didn't like that.

I'm not a swimmer, but it sounds as though the Club's initial attempts to create change was legitimate enough (without actually knowing the contents of the letter), and that the "leader guy" was going to disqualifiy the entire team based on one letter seems a bit draconian. It's the bit about waving to the crowd during events that seemed a bit out of line.

But I agree, it sounds as though they had the support of the other teams. Bell seems to be pretty inflexible, but maybe his job requires it.

Yeah, waiving to the crowd could be seen as classless, but that's what CU is all about. Aaaaand, it's freestyle - by rule can do whatever you want. If the dude is changing rules to make the events more fun, free, or whatever - he shouldn't care when people do something that is within conventional rules that could be seen as fun or free or whatever.

He should feel lucky it didn't get piss-bombed or take a battery to the noggin.

Dean Vernon Wormer: Greg, what is the worst fraternity on this campus?
Greg Marmalard: Well that would be hard to say, sir. They're each outstanding in their own way.
Dean Vernon Wormer: Cut the horse****, son. I've got their disciplinary files right here. Who dropped a whole truckload of fizzies into the swim meet? Who delivered the medical school cadavers to the alumni dinner? Every Halloween, the trees are filled with underwear. Every spring, the toilets explode.
Greg Marmalard: You're talking about the Colorado Swim team, sir.
Dean Vernon Wormer: Of course I'm talking about CU, you TWERP!

It's one thing if you are classless and suck. It's another thing if you are classless and dominate. I had no idea the club swim team was so good, but if you look at the past 4 years (prior to the dq), you'll see that cu was pretty much doubling up the 2nd place team in points.

And it sounds like they were winning the 2010 meet before they were booted after the first day.

Sounds like this American Swimming Association is run by some butt head named Bridger Bell. From the comments after the article, I think that they were sick of CU winning every year. So they changed the rules. They tried to force CU to start and flip turn differntly than other teams had to do. CU sent a protest letter and, in a couple of races, the CU swimmers threw the race in a kind of protest. Bridger got on the phone with his daddy, Dr. Kieth Bell, and they decided to throw the entire CU team out of the event. One Kansas parent defended CU saying they were one of the classiest teams in the event. CU is now saying they will never return and are looking for another organization.

I can't believe some of you guys are joking around about this. My daughter played club soccer at CU. It costs a **** load of money, a **** load of practice time, and a **** load of commitment. Our kids got totally screwed by some rich dip**** named Bridger. Bridger? Are you kidding me? I think this would be a great story for the post to pick up. I hope CU sues Bridger's ass and gets their money back and then some.

Dr. Kieth Bell started this organization as a "for profit" organization. Obviously, he felt that if CU kept dominating, teams would lose interest and stop paying to show up and get their asses kicked. Atlanta, GA. Dr. Kieth Bell. His son, Bridger. This sounds like a god damned soap opera.

Really, DBT?? Out of all of the topics we joke about, somehow the Swim Club is the one that's sacred? I think we all recognize that Bell is a bit of an ass.
