Governor Perry:
First and foremost I would like to commend you on your handling of the current athletic realignment in college sports. Your alma mater and the University of Texas stand to make tens of millions annually as a part of new conferences.
However, I am disappointed about the current situation my Baylor Bears face. I understand that Cal-Berkeley would not accept a Christian school in the Pac-10. I cannot understand how Texans can take such treatment from a Californian. I am sure the Cal grad now running UT was extremely distressed by that fact.
This is a very Republican state and the conservative fervor sweeping the nation will surely guarantee you another term in office. As a life-long resident of Houston, I have proudly voted before numerous times. Unfortunately, unless things change, you will no longer be receiving my vote. Being no more than a single voice in a large state, I know my vote will not turn the election in the slightest. I just want to make you aware that my sentiment is widely held by my fellow Baptists and Baylor Bears. Matt Mosely, of ESPN, made this point in a recent article. You should be aware that he is correct.
I am proud of my University. We have remained a small Christian school, attempting to promote hard work, discipline, and faith in Jesus Christ in all aspects. This has shined through in academics, athletics, and our reputation in Texas. Despite all of our strengths, we have not had recent success in football and we are located in a small market.
I never expected California or anyone else outside of this State to care about a small Christian school in a small Texas market. But I expect you to care. This is a sad day for the Baylor community. We look forward to voting for Mayor Bill White (who did great for us in Houston) so we can have a governor who will look out for the interests of all Texans, not just those represented by good football teams
