This is just an observation from a Ute fan about goings-on on this board and on other PAC-10 boards. First let me speak to the post below under the name "utesrus". UtesRus is a long time member and benefactor of utefans.net and I'm proud to say the realUtesRus is a good friend of mine, good enough that I can guarantee that the real UtesRus did not write that post. Yes, 'Rus has a bit of an ego and he can definitely talk smack with the best of them but the post I just read is totally not his style.
I've also observed on other boards where other utefans.net names have been hijacked. Not only UtesRus but also Portland Ute who also is a longstanding member of utefans.net has had his name hijacked to other PAC-10 boards and based on the level of condescending jerkness posted under Portland's name my guess is that it's the same bitter fan. Also there seems to be a plethora of posters that claim to be fans of other PAC-10 schools that are running smack on the Cal board, bruingold.com, etc., that is unquestionably familiar. Where is this smack familiar from? The good, stalwart, pious and (allegedly) humble fans of one Brigham Young University. In order to help you spot those hiding behind the anonymity of the message board here are some ways to spot these trolls posing as other trolls:
1. They come on as just a total and complete jerk. This isn't the Utah fan. We know and we understand that we were invited to the PAC-10 as a partner of Colorado. We understand that our television base isn't as large as yours and that you were the first pick, not us.
2. They'll find a way to bring BYU into the conversation even if it's made to appear that it's the Ute taking a shot at BYU. This is to reinforce their stereotype that Utah fans are obsessed with the Cougs.
3. They'll bring up the past. This is particularly true of the BYU fan attempting to pose as a fan of another school. Such as "I'm a Cal fan and I would much rather have BYU in our conference. BYU has an NC, a Heisman, A Doak Walker award winner, an Outland Trophy winner and they've been to more than twice as many bowl games as Utah". Wow, that's a lot of knowledge of BYU for a Cal fan.
4. Stadium size. Lavell Edwards seats 65,000. Rice-Eccles seats 45,000. That's nice and it's a constant point that the BYU troll will bring out which leads to
5. "Utah can't even sell out it's own stadium unless they're playing us". While that was admittedly true in the 80's, where BYU fans seem to be stuck, it isn't anymore. In fact over the past three years attendance at Utah has run about 103% of capacity and while nothing's been announced plans are in place to begin expansion probably at the end of the year. The south end zone where we would be expanding includes the locker rooms so I don't see that working during the year.
Just a note that will hopefully clarify that the post below that allegedly came from utesrus and others like it are a small group of bitter fans that are trying to give you an image that isn't true. I can tell you that as Ute fans we are more that excited to be in the PAC-10 with you.
