Just read a tweet from him that he has re-habbed his ass off and it's time to make it all worth it.

If you look at his stats, several things are clear:

- he hits a lot of goal posts
- he has been incredibly inaccurate from over 40 yards
- he has been very accurate from inside 40 yards
- he has been very good on extra points
- he has been excellent on kickoffs

Are you guys willing to give him another chance? If he wins the job, will you cheer for him the first time he lines up for a field goal? Will you have any faith in him?

Or is it simply time to move on no matter how things look during camp competition?

do what other schools do make him a kick off specialist and extra point taker... let castor kick the field goals from outside 25 yards

I have faith in him until he misses the first field goal. Then his head seems to be his biggest adversary. He reminds me a lot of Brad Lidge.

Maybe we can install flagpoles right behind the goalposts at each end of folsom and he can aim there. Imagine the cheers each time he hits one of those!

He has made one crucial field goal and missed all the others. He hits uprights more often than is statistically possible. Time to move on.

reminds of this guy i played junior golf tournaments with. Drew Williamson, from Dallas, was a really good player and hit it a mile (college coaches from SMU and OSU drooling all over his potential).....but, could not hit it in the fairway off the tee when it mattered. just couldn't dial it back that tiny bit so he could control the big swing.

you watch Goodman hit the ball, it's impressive. but, he's had his chances and as weird as Hawk gets at the cusp of FG range....you have to have someone you have confidence in....cause then it's a crapshoot both ways. there needs to be a safe play to base the "go for it" mentality upon.

I hear Castor can't make them from over 35 yards.

Kickoffs and let someone else have a try at fg's.

Who though? Grossnickle and Castor don't have the range. We have no one who has any game experience besides Aric. He by far has the strongest leg so he has the ability to make a FG from anywhere, he just needs to be able to do it when it matters in the games. I think he is our best option out of not many good options.

If what you are writing is true then I am really worried.

I'm worried too. Unless the coaches have some secret kicker that's is better than Aric, we may have another rough FG kicking year. I think Aric is our best option for FGs and think he could turn it around this year. Has the strength, just needs the focus. Yes, it is some bad luck how many posts he has hit on misses, but he needs to not use that as an excuse, but more as motivation to be a perfectionist. Don't just make the kick, but knock it straight down the middle. Get pissed at yourself if you make a kick by only a couple feet and try to improve on the next one.

Listen. If he is the best kicker leading into the season, he's the guy you go with. He has a helluva leg. Two years ago he wasn't close. Last year he hit uprights. This year, maybe, he tightens things up and makes 'em. I really do not want to put my faith in a freshman.

Preach brother preach!

I buy into the fact the Aric could be better this year. I am more worried about Grossnickle and Castor not having the range. What if Aric goes down or can't get it together? Are you saying we will only be able to attempt field goals 35 yards and closer? Kind of blows up the whole hope on the special teams thread.

I wanna see him succeed. It would be awesome to see him make some big kicks and have a good year and get back to the level of excitement when he drilled that game winner against WVU. The dude has enough leg to be a great kicker, but like dply said, he gets in his own head too much. I will root for him and hope he has rehabbed and gotten over some of the issues.

That said, I will still probably be a little uneasy for those first few long-ish attempts. What he does with those will sway me one way or the other. I don't think if he reverts to his previous ways we can afford to continue to let him try all year. We've had too many drives over the last 2 years get into opposing territory, stall, and end with 0 points.

I thought this Castor guy was supposed to have a good leg? I either read that here or somewhere else, dont know which. As far as who starts, I guess whoever wins in fall camp, even if it's Mr. Upright. Aric wins, Id roll with it until he starts thinking again.

I don't buy into it. Aric is a tremendous practice kicker. They put all kinds of pressure on him in practice to test him, and he's all-pro. Then in the games, he misses every big kick. If it's close, I give it to the other guy. You can't lose games this way. Can't afford it.

BTW, he hit goalposts in 2008 too! Maybe more if I remember right!

For this one, I'm going to pretend I'm from the "show me" state until he proves me wrong otherwise.

As bad as the special teams have been, the missed field goals have been particularly soul crushing. The momentum swings caused by those misses -- think WVU last year -- have been massive. Plus, the field position implications of those misses are huge. To top it off, the Hawk -- with good reason -- sometimes goes for it on fourth down when the situation clearly calls for a fg attempt (except when your guy can't make anything over 40 yards) -- resulting in loss of momentum and conceding good field position. Not pretty....

If the field goal kicking isn't at least average this year, it's going to be a long season.

They say you can bet on anything in Vegas. I should see if there is an over/under for hitting uprights. We have a cash cow if so lol.

I am extremely concerned about our field goal kicking situation. This could very well be the one thing that completely implodes the entire season.

You said in another thread that you had sources that he wasn't going to be the kicker...you may want to check your sources! It is Aric's job to lose. The gaggle of kickers that is currently assembled up have some promise no doubt...but none of them have the leg that he has. Further, Aric is on scholly and they are not going to waste is scholly to replace him with a walk on. Castor should redshirt and Gnickle is not half the place kicker Goodman is.

Don't get me wrong, Goodman has been pretty bad! But his leg strength is hard to deny and his experience can only help.

Go look at the practice field goal posts...they have some that are Arena Football width. That should help them all greatly!

Who is the other guy?

AG can boom it, but accuracy has been a problem. If he wins the job, I assume it will be because he is the best option. No matter how many he makes, I'll always cringe when he goes out to do his thing. Prove me wrong AG.....

Castor. Probably. I dunno. Jeez, how did we get into this spot?

Well, its all Hawkins fault. It seems to me that we've always had problems "hitting" on kickers. Yeah, yeah, I know: "CU is noted for their great kickers, you dumbass!" But, as I remember, Mac, Rick, Gary, et al did not GENERALLY give scholarships to kickers. CU has been VERY blessed with them. Helton, I think, was recruited from, like 2-A Simla as more of an athlete. The thing is, college coaches figure they can "find" a kicker. :smile2:

remember when he nailed that 55 yarder against csu last year? i fell off my bleacher.

You and I both. I couldn't believe that. I thought that our luck had turned. My friend and I both starred at each other, jaws dropped and double high fived. We both actually fell off (more slid) off the benches, toppling our crowd of friends+strangers on the bench below.
