Just name Hansen the starter. Right. Effing. Now.

This is absurd. I have no idea what Hawkins hopes to gain by stringing this out. It's blatantly clear to everybody who watched the scrimmage and who's seen any practices or games last year that Hansen is the clear choice.

Maybe Hawkins didn't watch any games last year or the scrimmage this year. It certainly would explain why he thinks we need to only cinch it up and we'll be winning an MNC.

I certainly hope so. If Cody trots onto the field against CSU I am going to have a coronary.

At least we are finally getting support from the media. There is a giant picture of Hansen on the front page of the sports section of the Post and the article explains how it is obvious Hansen is better. Couple that with the same sentiment from the Camera.

it is obvious to everyone.

I believe it was Klatt and CJ who said that this quarterback position battle is the elephant in the media room. Unless Hawkins wants that for some reason, he needs to think long and hard about this one. I realize he hasn't named a starter at any position, but QB isn't just any position. it's time.

I don't have doubts that Hansen will be the starter. My concern is that at the first sign of him struggling he will be taken out. This is what was so frustrating about last year. That the coaches think if TH isn't hot then Cody can easily step in and turn the game around. Even the best quarterbacks in the world will have some games they start off poorly, but many times they can snap out of it, figure out the D, and end up with great numbers. You can't take a bad start to mean he isn't going to play well all day.

yeah even the Post is calling for Hansen to be the starter and they are more than clueless.

it is obvious to everyone.
Well, not everyone. I read the DP article and at the very end, there was DH, still hoping against hope. I never wanted to believe he was that blockheaded about it...the natural consequence of that condition would be disaster. '09 was a disaster. After last year's completely bone headed handling of the QB situation, I became more or less convinced DH simply cannot let it go. It is, I am sure, very difficult to coach one's son at that level. His continuing lack of judgment on the issue has already cost him virtually all of his support from the fans, probably will cost him his job, and if he keeps going, it might ruin his career.

I keep thinking, no way does he repeat the silliness of '09, but, all last year we were hearing it was TH's job too...and with Hawk, you never know.

Yeah, I don't know how much that means. I guess it pretty much ensures that every sports fan in the Denver area who doesn't follow this closely will pick up on the Post's viewpoint. It's really a shame that they're that influential with the casual CU fan. But I guarantee it's all that fan will know about CU football if you start a watercooler conversation.

I concur. I'd like to see an official petition of Season Ticket holders or Buff Club members getting on board and signing.

The end of the article was disturbing indeed. I am just glad the the casual fan will see the front page of sports section with a giant picture of Hansen.

I also agree with Rugged. DH will figure out some ridiculous justification to get Cody on field this year when he should be showing some freaking support for his true starting quarterback!

How many teams - much less winning teams - shuffle quarterbacks like CU does? Zero, to my knowledge. You pick a starter and go with him, and if you need to bench him, you bench him for the rest of the year.

Substituting a quarterback at critical parts of the game because the bench player has more playing time under his belt isn't strategy, it's stupidity.

Well, Spurrier did it at Florida....just sayin'

And both of those quarterbacks were better than ours.

ANd Urban did it too but we are talking much different circumstances.

Just sayin' it can be done...I happen to agree TH should get the job and CU should let him run with it all season. CH goes in if the game is out of hand or TH gets injured, and those are the ONLY reasons.....

"Cody played with the ones, too."

Dan's like a recalcitrant junior high kid when it comes to Cody.

I can't wait until this season is over already and Cody is gone. I really would like us to do well this year but I swear Hawk will find a way to F it up and it looks like he's getting a head start on it already with this BS. At least next year no matter what we won't have to deal the coaches son on the team!!

Have any of the other positions been completely settled as to who the starter will be vs. CSU?

There are several positions that are up in the air. But all we seem to care about is QB, which is understandable.

Imho, Hawk should name Tyler the starter. The having to gameplan for 2 qbs is garbage in this case. Every dcoordiantor in the Big 12 knows how to defend Hawkins. At least Tyler can move, little Hawk tries his ass off but the dude is a 5'10" statue with a very average arm. Really a no brainer to me.

I understand that the QB is more important. But I think that it's quite possible that one of the things Hawk says is that everyone has a chance to start and we'll play the guy that is best for us that week. That includes all positions so he doesn't want to come out and say that Hansen in the starter.

That said, it seems quite apparent that Hansen IS the starter, so who cares?

Cody's name is dotted all over CU's all-time passing charts. 1st in TD passes (and interceptions). 3rd in passing yards. It's very odd that a 5th year senior, who's name is etched in school lore, doesn't get the chance to add to those stats in what should be his best year.

I'm not saying he should get the chance, it just points to many highs and many lows for CH.

I don't know the answer to this and I'm not going to bother looking it up but how many quarterbacks at CU have started more losses than Cody? That's the relavant record in this argument.

defenses figured him out after season one.

If Hawk doesn't want to officially name any starters, fine. But enough with the "razor hair" baloney already. It's not even close. Cut the crap.

Tyler is going to start, everyone settle down. So he doesn't have a big announcement, if the team knows the deal then who cares really. And having Cody take some reps with the 1s is no big deal either, you want your backup to be prepared to step in if Tyler goes down. Hawk has handled this oddly to say the least, but I think we're reading way too much into this.

Your points are well taken, but you have to remember who we are dealing with here. Here is an example of the decisions that make people nervous....http://www.buffzone.com/football/ci_13551969

It doesnt even sound like Tyler knows. He "thinks" he is leading the competition.
