The season looms and despite CU's woes, for some the koolaid's started to flow. Quick question: which team-with-troubles is in the best position to right its ship and why?

CU
Tennessee
USC
someone else

(Sorry. Don't know how to do the poll thingy and too impatient to figure it out)

U Michigan is another interesting case. All this excitement about Rich Rod coming in and then he goes ... 3 and 9 his first year. 5 and 7 the second year. A bunch of high profile guys defect. People whine he's working them too hard in the off season ... the ncaa investigates ... his style doesn't suit the players he has ...

Can he overcome the criticism?

of the given....

CU... we'll see.
tennessee way too far to go especially in the SEC. gonna be a few years for them. i dont care what they have recruited or how good the new coach is.
SC has all the talent you need but has the kiffster. who knows but i would not bet against them having a 9 win season which is probably the best of this group.

i will toss clempson in there. can they finally beat all the teams they are supposed to beat and one or two they are iffy on or should not beat?
i hate notre dame but i wanna see what the new coach can do there.
will FSU come back? they also are in the mix mostly becuse of the conference they are in.
will mijammi get smoked at OSU? if they pull off that upset they could leave thier mark on things. (this game leads to the OSU vs CU bowl game)

Yea I think ND could be on this list and they have a good shot at a 9-10 win season with that soft schedule. Steele is high on USC but I'm not seeing it with all the offseason turmoil they had.

Tennessee didn't wow me with the Dooley hire and I'm not (it's terrible to say, since he's a saint.....) a believer in Randy Shannon....

USC will win 7-9 games on talent alone, but that's not enough for the most frontrunning fanbase in college football.

I'll take Michigan and probation in a year or two.....

I think FSU could be a pretty dangerous team this year. The schedule is favorable outside of road trips to OU and Miami. I think they are a BCS bowl threat.

EDIT: I also think U-Dub is ready to turn a corner too. The one team I am not buying into right now is Arkansas, I like Mallett a lot but I think their defense will be their downfall.

Edited a poll in for you, rodrigo.

Added the max options. I think that there are some others that could have gone in (Arkansas, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, etc.).

FSU i dont think will win at OU. that is tough. but, i think they can wreak havoc in thier conference, unless clempson grows a pair. i can easily see them with a BCS bid as conference champs.

Isn't that the Buffalo Sabres logo?

dang if I know. I had it in an art file as "buffalo phoenix" and it seemed appropriate.

I guess it could be:

I'm going to say Florida State, they have some spectalar talent already and sit in the middle the best recruiting state in the country for speed. They also play in a conference that gives them some games that they can use as steppingstones into prominence and at the same time has enough teams that they can beat on talent alone. Their biggest obstacles are Miami and of course Florida but Miami is ripe for the picking and I think Florida is due for a bit of a slide playing in the toughest top to bottom league in the country. How much longer is Urban going to stay interested?

Some of the others look interesting but have to much competition in their leagues and for recruits to make rapid turnarounds. Some others on the list just seem to be stuck in mediocracy top to bottom and need something to get them unstuck before they go anywhere.

We have been hearing for years that this year will be Notre Dames year, it won't be again. Michigan and Tennessee are just screwed up, Clemson and Washington have potential but are to far away, aTm how can you figure the losing they have done with the talent they have, Syracuse is a perpetual loser, Slick Rick will screw up UCLA and USC has double problems with probation and Kiffins mouth.

Interestingly enough, I think that CU has enough quality young talent and is going into a league that is weak enough that with the right coach next year we could really surprise the nation.

I think Miami is on the verge of re-emerging under Shannon and I like Harris' athleticism, he just needs to get away from the stupid throws. The non-conference schedule is tough though, the game at the 'shoe is one of the more interesting September games on the national schedule.

RE 4db: Clemson has to replace Spiller and the bulk of their receiving corps, plus the conference schedule is not kind, but at least they avoid VT.

right. but the thing with clemson is that no matter how good they are supposed to be, they always drop a head scratcher. one in the OCS and one in. if they could avoid that, they would be a contender in the conference because they do pull off the upset almost once a year too. they have to be one of the most consistantly inconsistant teams in the nation year in and year out.

Any team from Florida should be on the list. Florida has an awesome talent pool and zero admission standards. Those schools could get Forrest Gump in on scholarship. I voted for aTm because I thought they had a **** load of young talent when we played them. But I think the Florida/South schools just have a different set of academic standard than the rest of the US. The NCAA is a joke. The MNC will be won by southern schools almost every year. An embryo could qualify for those programs if it could run a 4.4 forty.

Yea, a couple of years ago they had those high expectations blown out of the sky when Bama spanked them in the annual SEC-kicks-the-ACC's-ass-in-Atlanta game, then last year year they blew that CCG against GT. And they have no excuse for losing the Maryland 2 straight years.

You cannot vote for CU until we:

A) Get a new coach
B) Find out who the new coach is

I went with FSU. Although I think Brian Kelly at ND has a pretty good shot at turning things around quickly.

I went with ND because Kelly will most likely bring some renewed enthusiasm to them, and if they can get thru the first 6 games at 4-2 or 5-1 then they're in great shape. But hopefully I'm completely wrong on this.

Everyone up here(in Washington State) seems to think that Washington is on it's way to the rose bowl this year. I think they will eventually be back on top but i think Miami will do it quicker than everyone else.

Arkansas. Their recruiting on D has been sick. Should start to show up this year.

Muchas gracias. And a much better, more complete list. As always, nice work.

I think it very easily could be ND, but I so badly do not want it to happen that I'm going with Miami.

I think the poll is asking, "which of these teams is going to have a great year?" I'll take the Buffs (using the same logic that has made me lose a lot, betting on the Buffs, these last few years). Either DH is going to use the better talent/atheleticism level to rise up, a la McCartney, or prove to have been the worst AD mistake, since fairbanks.

"This guy may not be the worst, but he's knocking on the door"

From a gambling perspective, the Buffs were 7-5 last season. :smile2:

i can easily see Notre dame starting 2-2. depends on meatchicken and meatchicken st. if they have ball clubs, and nd breaking in a new coach, that could spell trouble. however, ND still has talent. can the new coach take advantage of that talent? i dont think he can enough to make a big splash this year. he loses one of those two games.

that means a 3-1 start at best. the rest of the schedule is crap until they meet utah in november. that will be the real test for the team. then they have SC and who knows what the hell the kiffster will do to SC. ND has a kneebraska like OCC schedule for the most part of the year but, there is pleanty of room for them to get bit in the ass. especially early.

i will say that the ND team you see in weeks one through 4 will probably not be the same team in the last 3 weeks of the season. they will most likely be much better and if i were a SC fan, i dont like this being the last game of the season.
