He really tried to give this to Georgia. I am convinced now more than ever, especially with his post game comments, that he has no business being a head coach at this level....

He kept saying.... when your kids go to class and do the right thing, eventually the breaks will fall your way and you will get a win.....

This win has made me happy for the players and angry at Hawk even more...

You might be right, but I just hope he keeps getting wins.

he did really seem to feel the need to cram a lot of self-justifying info into the on-field/post-game comment.

Bonus points for having his wife by his side at the time too. Seems quite orchestrated to me.

Anyway, Hawkins still makes some weird decisions during the game, but I will give him credit for last night's win. The team actually played with emotion and discipline, not to mention came back for a 10-point deficit. The mental toughness that we have lacked for most of his tenure seemed to be there for a change.

And it seemed to carry over from the 2nd half of Hawai'i. Hopefully they can take it on the road.

Hey, as long as you win, I don't care what you say. This next stretch will tell us a lot!

I can't help but wonder how much of the credit for that goes to Al last week and the '90 team yesterday. It'll be interesting to see how the emotion & passion of the team goes for the next few games without the built-in motivation coming from the older greats being around/celebrated.

I agree, I kept telling my dad, I cant believe we only have 3 ****ing penalties lol. They made some stupid calls but, all in all, thought it was a good effort by our guys. As far as Hawk having his wife there lol all I can say.

I would have blamed Hawkins if we had lost last night no matter how the loss happened. It's only fair that I credit him for the win. He's the leader and his squad won. And it's not like we overwhelmed Georgia with our talent.

Organizations don't rise above the level of their leadership, so I call bull**** on saying that a team ever wins against a more athletically gifted team despite its coach.

I loved some of the play calling last night. Ive been wanting some option for quite some time. One broke and the other should have, think Speedy was shocked at the lane he had lol and tripped himself. Some on the other hand, was just dumb. Damn we should just enjoy the win. It's like we get a W and we start playing coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Do you really think GA is THAT much more talented than we are? I'm in the minority, but I actually think we have good talent on the team. We have some depth issues at RB and our QB could use an upgrade, but in general, I think we have excellent talent. The coaching is atrocious though at certain areas.

Hawk - he was given this game. If there isn't a bad fumble (Beatty did a good job, but at the same time, it shouldnt' have been fumbled), then GA most likely wins. The tune of all of this changes. You don't consistently win by getting breaks to go your way, because your kids are doing the right things off the field. No, luck is the residue of design, and Hawk's design is incomprehensible - I don't think anyone has any idea what it is. Better yet, you just don't count on luck and breaks, and you just make the outcome what you want it to be. It's great that we won, but I just really hope that the higher-ups at CU don't see this win as a positive for Hawk. 2 pointer?! 52-yd fg by Goodman? Come on...it's great we won, but Hawk does not deserve credit just yet.

I get what you are saying but I was just happy for the players. I didnt really pay any attention to Hawk other than lmao when he did his interview.

I hated his post game interview as well. What a bunch of holier than thou crap. I found that my ire even took some of the fun out of the great end to the game. Now I wonder if we will ever let this guy off the mat even if he does manage somehow to actually turn things around.

So bizarre. I am so happy we won and hope they manage to keep it up and yet I still remain absolutely convinced that this guy can't coach a lick. Prove us wrong dan.

A coach can be critiqued & criticized for every little thing they do.....but honestly, there is noone in their right mind who has any understanding about football that can bag on the coaching from last night

Yes, a few odd decisions, but ultimately this was the best coached team and game I've seen in the Dan Hawkins Era...Team came out with energy, played 4 quarters of quality football, had a plan on offense and particular plays that worked tremendously well to exploit the Georgia D (i.e. the Tailback sweep passes in the 1st half & the option tosses in the 2nd half)...aside from ST and maybe the 52 yd fg decision, this was a VERY WELL coached game last night (as much as it might pain me to say that)

I only see the football minds on this board clamoring about those 2 decisions could have negated an entire positive effort by the team.... The people with less than zero football knowledge are in love with those decisions and are probably still rushing the field :smile2:

you know where I stand-

Last year KU was our "quality" win. I'll be a believer when he can string more than 2 wins in a row on a lot more of a consistent basis.

No coach in their right mind goes for two when he did and no coach in their right mind goes for a 52 yard fg with a kicker like Goodman.

I think ripping Hawkins after a win is ridiculous. This thread is just ripping him because he is Hawkins.

The announcers at the conclusion of the game announced that this was the 1st time CU had won CONSECUTIVE games in TWO (2) YEARS! I couldn't believe that.

I am surprised we won more than 2 games since Hawk has been coach!

That's funny because I think ripping Hawkins at any time I please is perfectly acceptable considering the last 4 years.

Wife after watching Hawk's postgame comments: "Oh yeah, great job Hawkins, kick a 96 yard field goal and win the game 'cause the Georgia guy gives you the ball and saves the bacon"...Big lol from me.

Georgia made a lot of mistakes, we made fewer mistakes. The kids played hard and got rewarded for it. It will take a lot more than one win over a young, mistake prone team who's best player missed much of the game with a leg problem for me to give Hawkins any slack.

I do give him credit for a number of things. He has cleaned up the image of the program in the media and the community. His players do go to class and have mostly avoided negative publicity. I also think that he has recruited better than I expected and even with the lousy record he has brough in some guys who have the athletic ability to play at the BCS level. If/when he gets relieved of his duties he will leave a core of players that is better than he found when he got here.

At the same time the record speaks for itself. He has never had a winning season, he has lost games to teams that have no business beating CU, he has lost other games in embarassing fashion. He is the man in charge and refuses to accept responsiblility for his failings and those of his team.

I have nothing against him personally and actually think he is a pretty good guy but he is in over his head in this situation and has no clue how to get out. I am glad for the players to see them go 3-1 and have some fun but to be truly fair they deserve a chance at doing something special and they aren't going to get that under Hawk.

3 penalties for 21 yards. Does Hawk get any credit for that? Just looking for the positives to counter the negatives.

As I posted on the "other board", it looks to me that Hawkins was extra smug last night post game and having Mitsi there with him seemed to be another signal that all is well for the Hawkins family. I don't think they need to worry about packing up and hitting the road.

He feels totally fine with what he's doing, feels all his work is paying off and I believe he knows that since he's met the criteria set for him by the CU admin. he is totally safe from being let go. A few wins goes a long way because the admin. is satisfied with a "controlled" program and doesn't feel the need for a great program. So why should they rock their boat trying to find another, top coach? The fans are so happy they run on the field after a win over a weak team, they support the fun filled Friday night Buff Stampedes and they love their Folsom Field so much that they will keep paying those ticket prices even if the team doesn't improve.

Hawk has made it over the hump and so has Bohn. Neither is going anywhere.
