Any Explanation Of Why We Abandoned The Running Game?

I might have just missed it, but I never saw an explanation of why we abandoned the running game when Cody came in. Someone must have asked the question to one of the coaches, right?

Maybe it was our 1yd per carry average? The OL did not play well, tech stacked the box and cu moved the ball through the air much better than on the ground. I didn't see that coming, tech not known for a good run defense. But, we may have to get used to this til the season is over.

Not sure. I was listening to the Tech radio broadcast and they were asking the same question. Part of it might stem from the fact that Tech has the worst pass defenses in the Big 12. But I'm not sure whey we completely abandoned all attempts to run, especially since it sounded like the wind was really gusting and swirling, making passes that much harder to complete.

I wasnt at the game but from the poeple who used my tickets they said as soon as Tyler went down TT was stacking the box, stuffing the run and basically daring us to go deep since Cody is no threat to run it.

Which is exactly what all the remaining teams will do imho.

Could it have been that at times we had Cefalo, Espinoza and Jefferson at wr. Call me crazy but I think we are tipping our hand that a run is coming your way. Can we not spread the field, thus spreading the defense out and run out of that formation. Good god its not that tough.

Of course. That's how you beat Cody. Stack the box and play the DBs up. Dare him to float a duck over your head to beat you deep.

Amazing how the last 5 weeks will be a look into the mess this has been the last 5 years....I've seen this before and it is ugly.

Yes you will see a lot of that. Cody will complete a long one once in a while but ultimately he ends up throwing short passes so stacking the LOS works to defend both the running and the passing game.

That fact has been discussed many times and you have to think there is some merit to it. It's like mcdaniels trotting out tebow with no threat of a pass, defensive CO'S can figure it out pretty quickly.

Well, unless it's a screen pass and a fake qb run/handoff to TB and you get beat all day with it.

The offense sure seems different whenever Cody is in the game. Almost as if the game is entirely on his shoulders, which I do not get at all.

I get that. What I'd like to know is if the coaches actually addressed this issue and gave an answer to the question, "Why'd you go exclusively to the pass?"

These questions you ask are supposed to be addressed at the Tuesday Press Conference but the cowards asking the softball questions seem afraid to ruffle the birds feathers so to speak... Instead, we have questions about helmet to helmet hits and pro football talk.

Do the coaches ever give us a reason why everything they do is a complete and total failure? They probably have no idea they abandoned the running game.

I would bet that Talkins had a dream the night before the game. In his dream he was climbing a mountain and found the Dalai Lama at the summit, and that Lama said "Abandon the running game for greener pastures". I hear that Lama is a big football fan.

Some of that (maybe most?) is Cody changing plays. Sometimes it works, like on that play to Richardson. But usually the net result is 40+ throws with low efficiency and a defense that gets worn down from being on the field too much.

Its pretty simple really....Cody in game means throw the ball a ton...Tyler in game means run the ball and wait to throw on 2-point conversions

Can't wait to see another screen pass to patterson for zero or negative yds. The cody roll-out to the right and 2yd pass is a gem too.

As others have observed, since mid 2008, every DC in the known world knows how to defend CU when CH is in the game. Stack the box, take away the run press coverage and bring the house on throwing downs. Watch...that is what every team from OU to NU left on the schedule employ that gameplan with mad success. Well, maybe KU will eff it up...

CH will complete a ****load of short balls for 5.0 tards or less per attempt. It looks good on a stat sheet but is way below the production you want for your passing game...

How many 3 and outs in a row did we end the TTech game with...something like 8 in a row. More of the same this weekend. OU has better athletes than TTech, they are pissed about last weeks loss and we are on the road. Oh ****ity ****!
