Buckner's also a pretty good basketball player who is averaging 12 and 9 this season.

Some football highlights (we'll need much better than this): http://www.hudl.com/athlete/45969/deforest-buckner

Maybe you'll be able to link to Rivals (actually stood up as an OLB at his height): http://rivals.yahoo.com/video/recruiting-football/Deforest-Buckner-Highlights-2-1068528;_ylt=AobcaCZ8.nr1j7i0ELrlftLBrZB4

AZ has interviewed Buckner and reports a CU offer from the previous staff that the new staff has confirmed is still valid: http://www.buffscoop.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9962

He named a top three of Oregon, Arizona, and CU in an interview with the Oregon Scout site a couple days ago.

There's no way he goes to AZ over CU or Oregon so that leaves us with a very tough battle against the Ducks. ;)

I don't know. Didn't Mike Stoops say he was going to own the polynesian recruiting from here on out?

Forrest and DeForest? Yes please.

Great minds think alike.

I said that in the K.T. Tuumalo thread from last cycle. If you want video on this kid just watch Tuumalos highlights. #5 is all over the place.

Alfred, I was watching KT's impressive video and kept thinking to myself who is #5?

...Turns out #5 is Deforest Buckner a junior. 6'7" 230 lbs and hits like a truck. Hopefully coach Cabral and Kanavis can reel in that kid next year. Keep the Punahou connection wide open!

Then our DLine would consist of Forest and Deforest.

Haha, yeah I didn't know it either, but I happen to work with his sister. There's going to be a huge contingent of Black and Gold at that Hawaii game, I promise you that!

goddamit another punahou kid?

Maybe if Iolani played football that was worth half a ****, we wouldn't take so gd many Punahou kids! Jk!
Seriously, DeForest just steamrolls people. Hope he's a Buff next year.

Seems like we're not in his top 5. But, I wouldn't count out any Hawaii prospect for the Buffs. Hawaiians usually decide late so we have some time to get in there

Watched one game this season and to be totally honest he looked stiff and unathletic. He had pretty much no impact on defense that I noticed, and I was keeping an eye on him. Kind of disappointed, but the scout guys know more than I do.

Not really. I think they and some coaches see the size and decent feet from playing basketball. They're thinking that with a college training regimen and coaching that he has a tremendous upside potential. He's not a "can't miss" prospect or a guy who would be expected to make an impact as a true freshman. But, damn, if you can develop it you really have something. Not too many 6'7" guys are put at OLB in high school and asked to drop into coverage.

You know, my brother's high school football team played against Lamarr Houston, and this was after he'd committed to UT. While I was watching the game I kept thinking the same thing, but now he's a starting DE for an NFL team. Shows what I know.

yeah I don't have much confidence i my eyes or my judgement as a scout . . . definitely looked like the kid could at least be coached better (sorry Buff'n'Blue)

What’s your timetable now moving forward?

“I have (a visit to) Cal next week, I have UCLA on January 13, Utah on January 20 and Colorado on January 27.”

And you’re planning on taking all five of your official visits?

“As of right now, yes I am.”

Hell Yeah!!! Love that we're set up to get the final visit!

Wow awesome. Last visit too. Hopefully he still takes them.... "as of right now"

Glad we are getting a visit, but not so keen on it being the last visit. Hope I am wrong.

that is a LOT of travel back and forth from Hawaii in a short time. I don't think he gets to our visit.

It looks like that is our Hawaii weekend. Psalm Wooching is also coming then. Maybe that helps that there's a group coming.

As Snow pointed out, it totally depends on whether he gets burnt out on the process and decides to commit. But if we make it to the 27th with him uncommitted and get the OV, I love our chances.
