"Arizona State, UCLA and Washington are my top schools right now," McDaniel said. "ASU likes me for linebacker and the other two are recruiting as a running back. All three schools are recruiting me very hard and I have a good relationship with the coaches.

"Right now, I plan to go through the recruiting process and take all my official visits. I don't want to make an early commitment because so much can change during the season.
There is always coaching changes and I want to watch the teams play and look at the depth charts so I can see how I would fit in at each of the schools."

“I’m going to go through the whole recruiting process and I don’t plan on making a commitment until the end of the season,” said McDaniel.

I share WR's enthusiasm for this offer.

McDaniel plays with a mean streak that will be effective on either side of the ball at the college level. He was a kid that blew up during the spring evaluation period and is getting looks from just about every Pac-12 school now. Really hope we can get into his top group now that we have offered.

If some of you guys read this that aren't into recruiting, I recommend watching his highlight films. It's literally entertaining to watch and should help with the football void of spring/summer.

EB Cabral recruit combo. That was some of the funnest tape I have ever watched. I hope they make him a priority.

Damn, that kid is mean. I felt sorry for some of those db's and lb's lol. He looks like one of those guys that I hated to have to try and tackle cause you knew damn well it was gonna hurt lol. Geez, he wasnt just running over guys, he was knocking them backwards a few yards. Dude is a pure hitter whether he has the ball or not, could play both sides no doubt. I hope we have a shot and props to the staff for offering, dude is obviously a player.

wow, some pretty nasty truck sticks in those videos. Power-backs in high school worry me the most when they come to the next level. Lets face it, Pac 12 linebackers are not going to get bullied around like those high school kids. McDaniel reminds me a lot of a Demetrius Sumler when he was in high school. Sumler was a little faster, but had very similar videos where he would mess dudes up... I remember being tickled to death when he chose us over boise state, and then reality set in. All those San Diego records that Sumler crushed (including reggie bush), meant nothing because he was slow and wasn't able to knock around the college linebackers like he did in high school. Maybe EB can make McDaniel a one-cut monster, but I think that there are a lot better RB's that we have our eye on...

FWIW, I think McDaniel is going to end up at LB in college. He could play either position, but he played LB at some camps this spring and was impressive.

Its funny because in the vids, you can even tell the guys tackling him dont want too, contact is soft and almost like a "I hope this is enough for someone else to get to him" Good Stuff

Ryan McDaniel in Beast MODE!!!!

I hate you man.

I can see your concern, but I think McDaniel would be great at the college level. He looks more Ron Dayne than Demetrius Sumler to me. That said, even if he doesn't impress at RB, there's always LB to fall back on. Either way, we win.

You guys suck, let my man McDaniel tote the rock! Yall probably would've moved Ron Dayne and Toby Gerhart to LB.

I just think McDaniel is going to have the ideal size to step in and contribute at LB from day one. I also love his mean streak for the defensive side of the ball, plus he seems to have good instincts in flowing to the ball.

I don't disagree that he looks good at LB, I just love me some powerback. Hopefully we get McDaniel and Payne, that would be heaven.

how'd that guy ever get into cal...

The UC system allows for academic exceptions in admission requirements for prospective students with special ability. Cal has opted to lump in football and basketball players with musicians, artists and savants in order to improve its sports programs. UCLA, conversely, has chosen not to use this loophole.

He showed well (at LB:smile2:) this past weekend at the B2G Elite Camp in California. Several top prospects were there and he stood out. Here is what Rivals had to say about him:

Strengths: McDaniel played all weekend at inside linebacker even though some programs still like him at running back. He has great downhill speed, plays with a lot of intensity and looks comfortable playing defense. McDaniel is also really sturdy and has lots of power from top to bottom.
Weaknesses: In our opinion, McDaniel would be better served focusing on defense - USC has offered as a middle linebacker - because he has all the skills to be dominant there. Does he have the endurance at his size to be an every-down back at the highest level? He's proven himself on both sides so it could be tough to choose.

I know you like him at running back, WR, but I really think he is a star in the making at LB.

Yeah well.. you guys will be thanking me when he signs with us over USC on NSD because we offered him a chance to play RB

I like him at LB, but I'd honestly bring him in as a fullback. I think he'd start there as a true freshman.

He could play a lot as a LB as a true freshman. I think he would be the most talented LB to come to Boulder since Jon Major.
