Essentially, Harper made a name for himself running routes at the Elite 11 camp. He just visited Cal and seems to like them quite a bit. Not sure why he has not gotten more attention until now. Grades do not seem to be an issue (he reported a 3.5 to ESPN).

"Colorado just offered me," Harper said. "I'm definitely excited about this one and although I don't know a lot about Colorado, I'm eager to learn as much as I can. Colorado is a big-time school and I think this offer will also get the attention of some other schools that were kind of hesitant to offer me."

He also goes to the same school as 2011 recruit Devin Lucien. Not sure how much I buy this quote from his coach, but here is how he compares the two players:

"He's a much better prospect than Devin," Mack said. "He's more athletic, has better hands, is a better blocker and is fearless going over the middle. Devin really blew up as the season progressed last year and I expect the same thing to happen with Chris. He has the talent to play for anyone and I think he'll have a ton offers before the season is over."

He also wants to a trip out here with Ishmael Adams (apparently close friends, they just took an unofficial to Cal together):

Harper, rated No. 86 at wide receiver in the 2012 class and No. 73 in the California state rankings by Rivals.com, said he's hoping to take an official visit to Colorado with his friend, four-star cornerback Ishmael Adams, early on this season. Nothing has been scheduled yet but that could happen soon.

Sign him up.

Thanks for the vid nik.

Is Crespi where EB went? If so you can see that his protege is wearing his number at around 2:46 in the endzone

Tall, talented WR, 4* CB, somehow I think we could find room for them if they want to come as a package.

I'm a little worried about the comment he made about this opening up other offers for him, sounds a little like he has another school he wants an offer from. That said if we can get him to Boulder on visit we have at least a decent chance.

I like the step up in quality of kids that Embree and Co. seem to be working on.

Sweet! This makes like 1 out of 25 people I said we might have interest in to actually receive an offer!

Not sure why we would offer now. He looks like a solid player, but we seem pretty high on Countryman and if we're high on him we're probably high on Alex Jackson. Not sure we have any room for Harper.

I'm not sure Countryman stays at WR.

Also you want a balanced class positionally but I wonder if the coaches are seeing the guys who they think actually could contribute at some other positions going elsewhere and are taking an approach of get quality athletes in and make up the other positions next year.

What makes you think he isn't a WR? I'm pretty sure he is being recruited exclusively as a WR. He's also not very big, so I doubt Greg Brown would want him as a corner. I think it's far more likely this Harper kid could get looked at as a CB.

As far as I know, Jeff Thomas and Peyton Williams are both exclusively WRs, they don't even play DB. Gerald Thomas wants to play WR so bad that TCU (his dream school) offered him as a CB and he is committed to us. I guess we could be luring him in with the promise of playing WR, but I doubt it. We need his speed on the offense.

I would like to see Countryman end up at WR for the Buffs as well but he is 6' 170lbs as a HS player, plenty big to play CB for Brown. He has at various times been listed as an Athlete for recruiting purposes.

My point is less about Countryman than given the choice of taking a guy at another position who the coaches don't think will be up to standards or taking an extra WR or going heavy at another position with guys who the coaches think might turn into significant contributors creates an interesting dilema.

I think I understand what you're saying. You think we're just grabbing athletes and finding positions for them later? Which is somewhat acceptable, although given that signing day is a bit off, I would prefer we find naturals for the time being.

Countryman may be listed at 6'0 170, but if you watch the videos, he's much more 5'10 160 than he is 6'0 170. I'm pretty sure he's a pure WR. Then again, Ishmael Adams isn't towering over anyone and I'd take that guy all day long.

For official visits, Harper said Colorado will for sure get one.

“I will definitely visit Colorado and I think I will visit Georgia Tech and SMU,” said Harper. “When we were at the 7on7, we got a chance to briefly look at the SMU campus but we didn’t get to talk to the coaches.”

One other note in the article is that Shane Dillon apparently talked to our coaches about Harper after throwing to him at the Elite 11.

I get the impression we're going to take like 4 or 5 WRs this cycle.

Not sure this guy is near the top of that list, but if Dillon likes him we should go after him. Gotta make the future of the franchise happy.

I wonder if they also aren't thinking to bring in a bunch of WRs who are big, fast athletes and if they have to many to move one or two to the other side of the ball.

Had a huge first game for Crespi against Compton Dominguez. He only played a little over a half and pretty much dominated in his match-up against Brandon Beaver.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/6935949/jordan-simmons-game-shines

While Simmons may have been the best prospect on the field, Crespi receiver Chris Harper was easily the best player on the field and had a huge first half. Dominguez standout corner Brandon Beaver shadowed Harper all over the field, no matter where he lined up, but it was a one-sided matchup and Beaver was eventually pulled off the receiver.

Harper finished the half with four catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns, including a 75-yarder late in the half and had no problem getting open all game long before sitting out most of the second half due to the blowout.

Impressive.

Scout was generous enough to have highlights of said performance for free:

Harper looks like a guy that won't wow you with size or speed, but he does everything good, and his size and speed are good enough. He made Beaver look pretty silly on that shorter TD. The 2nd TD was great balance to shed the tackle. It wasn't against #2 (Beaver) so I assume it was against Alphonso Marsh (pretty decently recruited CB, we haven't offered). I've made it known I'm a fan of Countryman, but I won't be disappointed at all if we end up with Harper.

ESPN has him as a 3* now.

Come on, Dillon, bring him home for us.
