April 15th thru May 31st is one of the biggest time periods on this year's recruiting calendar.

(f) April 15 through May 31, 2016 [except for (g) below]: One hundred sixty-eight (168) evaluation days (216 for U.S. service academies) (see Bylaw 13.02.7.2) (excluding Memorial Day and Sundays) selected at the discretion of the member institution and designated in writing in the office of the director of athletics [as provided in (1) below]: (1) An authorized off-campus recruiter may use one evaluation to assess the prospective student-athlete’s athletics ability and one evaluation to assess the prospective student-athlete’s academic qualifications during this evaluation period. If an institution’s coaching staff member conducts both an athletics and an academic evaluation of the prospective student-athlete on the same day during this evaluation period, the institution shall be charged with the use of an academics evaluation only and shall be permitted to conduct a second athletics evaluation of the prospective studentathlete on a separate day during this evaluation period.

Basically, the coaches hit the road this Friday and this is going to determine a lot of early verbals around the country. Expect a lot of activity on the recruiting board this next month and a half.

June 1 through July 31 is a "Quiet Period".

Within that, June 27 - July 10 is a "Dead Period"

All of August will also be a "Quiet Period".

Quiet Period = During a quiet period, a college coach may only have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents on the college’s campus. A coach may not watch student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the college’s campus) or visit their high schools. Coaches may write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their parents during this time.

Dead Period = During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.

Since that May Evaluation Period is over, June becomes a big month for commitments. Colleges hosted camps and a lot of guys committed while at these. Or recruits had done enough of the circuit and talked to coaches enough that they were able to make a decision.

Now with this current Dead Period that goes through next weekend, they can't even go on an unofficial visit so things are pretty quiet for recruits and a number of them finally have time to sit and think. That leads to some decisions. Last week (final week of Quiet before going Dead), CU picked up 4 commits. During this weak's Dead, CU has picked up 2 commits, a Clark posts suggests that #3 for the week will happen today, and there is #Chatter that a number of other guys are close.

We'll start seeing unofficial visits pick up again after the 10th and that's kind of the 2nd cycle for the early commitments. Most of the recruits will have their own preseason practices in August, so lots of UVs in the last half of July. Then August becomes a decision time during Quiet when players either commit or set Official Visit schedules.

I was wondering why Dead and Company is playing Folsom this weekend.
