2017 College Football News

They've always got insane athletes. What makes them so scary this year (beyond a Heisman finalist frontrunner at QB) is that they were able to dominate Stanford in the trenches. Watching Shaw on the sideline during that one, he had the look of a coach who knew his team had no chance outside of getting crazy lucky on turnovers, blown coverages and special teams.
That dude has a hell of a poker face. And yea, what USC was doing to Stanford's DL was ugly.

Klatt was on the morning show today and he said he'd be surprised if SC isn't in the playoff, due to their OL/DL play. He said SC "now has a football adult in the room" with Clay Helton, compared to Sark and Kiffin, who were recruiting and calling games from a place of "vanity". Helton has completely changed that, and it's paying major dividends.

And to think people were calling for Helton's head after getting dismantled by 'Bama and losing 3 of their first 4...

What stood out to me in that USC-Stanford game is how absolutely stacked USC with RBs and LBs. Just elite speed and athleticism for days. They are obviously really good all the way around, but they had clear advantages over Stanford at those two positions (taking nothing away from a sensational Bryce Love).

As always, USC will step on their dicks at least once this season. Here's to that happening on November 11. [goddamnitwhydidyougetridofbeerglasssmilie]

Even more incredible is that each player is willing to accept the amount of snaps they get and not complain knowing they could start at how many schools who recruited them. 1 good season at SC = 2-3 at most other schools.

Looking forward to hate watching ND while getting to cheer for Michigan State next week. Dantonio has a QB again and they look kinda good.

Sounds like at least three of the Florida players currently suspended will be charged with felony grand theft.

Todd Grantham is crazy and not all that good of a DC, but he is a weirdly good fit at Mississippi State. Like all of his defenses, if they have a lead, watch out. It can snowball so quickly. And of course, 3rd downs are always a fun adventure with his defenses. Sacks on sacks and forced TOs while also giving up big plays because guys don't always know their assignment lol.

Money talks, Joseph Smith walks.
I have seen many people spout off that the LDS Church took an investment position in Coca-Cola and this is why the doctrine changed back in 2012. There doesn't appear to be any proof to that.

It is certainly possible they could have taken a significant investment position with a shell company (they have 100's), but no one has uncovered it to date to back up the claim.

Supposedly, the Church has investment positions in Pepsi, not outright ownership.

They do own a stake, no pun intended, in Marriott, which, until recently, had in room pay per view porn.

My Mormon extended family members have claimed that soda was always acceptable, and they've been drinking it for as long as I can remember, magic underwear and all

The "words of wisdom", which is not part of their actual scripture, forbid "hot drinks" (maybe it says warm?) and "intoxicating liquor"... Tea and coffee are thus out, not because of the caffeine, but because of the preparation...

I had a Mormon buddy in college who drank beer, because in his interpretation, it wasn't an "intoxicating liquor". Not following the words of wisdom isn't grounds for excommunication or anything like that, and followers are actually supposed to interpret them as they see fit. The social pressure, though, makes the interpretation pretty uniform.

I have done a lot of business in Utah over the years. I don't fully understand the Mormon religion and their belief system to much extent. I do know two things:
1) I have yet to meet anyone who isn't as nice as anyone you have ever met face to face, but you sometimes don't realize what they are really thinking because they mask it so well
2) They will very much do business with companies being represented by members of the Church where it makes sense over non-Church member represented companies - this is logical, but can be frustrating when you aren't a Church member and know your solution is a better fit
