Congrats to Ms's. Kornieck, Baucom and Tompkins for the Pac 12 honors!

And, a look back at the 2018 season with the captain and coach.

(Having to start this thread earlier than I would like, but, oh well.)

Congrats to the soccer Buffs for kicking it in the classroom as hard as they kick it on the field!
(Great they don't exclude student-athletes like Ms. Cardenas from being eligible for this kind of honor solely because they couldn't play much due to an early season- ending injury.)

"
SAN FRANCISCO—11 Colorado soccer student-athletes earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors the conference announced on Wednesday. Libby Geraghty led the selections as Colorado's lone first-team honoree, while Hannah Cardenas earned second-team honors.

To qualify, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, have been enrolled full time at their current institution for two or more consecutive semesters, and have participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.

Geraghty, a Greenwood Village, Colo., native, becomes Colorado's first first-team representative since Kate Scheele in 2015. The redshirt freshman holds a 4.0 GPA while majoring in integrative physiology. She earned four starts and appeared in all 20 matches for the Buffaloes. Geraghty scored her first-career goal in CU's win over Oregon. She also had three assists in her first full season. Geraghty suffered a season-ending injury in Colorado's opener in 2017.

Cardenas, a Placentia, Calif., native, is a 4.0 student, majoring in psychology. She played in 272 minutes and started three matches for Colorado before suffering a season-ending injury.

Kelsey Aaknes, Jorian Baucom, Nancy Best, Isobel Dalton, Erin Greening, Katie Joella, Sarah Kinzner, Jalen Tompkins and Scout Watson all earned honorable mention.

Colorado finished the season 13-4-3. CU set a school-record with a 16-game unbeaten streak to open the season. The Buffs also set records in goals (47), assists (50) and total points (146).

Another day, another congrats in order to Ms. Kornieck (although I assume this is her BIGGEST soccer honor to date)!

"
KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Colorado junior Taylor Kornieck was named second-team All-America by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) on Thursday. Kornieck is the first All-American for the Buffaloes since 2006.

Kornieck joins Fran Munnelly as the only other Colorado student-athlete to earn All-America honors from the USC. Munnelly earned second and third-team selections in her tenure as a Buff in 2004 and 2005. Nikki Marshall was a 2006 fourth-team Soccer Buzz Online All-American.

"Taylor came to Colorado to make an impact and she has done just that," head coach Danny Sanchez said. "This recognition is a reflection of our team's success and her personal drive to be the best. We are excited for her, but more excited to see what she can do as she leads us in her senior year."

Best wishes to Jorian Baucom (and any other interested senior Buffs) in today's draft (which looks to be on now)!

Congrats to all the honorees at last night's annual team awards gathering, and hope everyone had a great time!

BOULDER— Colorado soccer coach Danny Sanchez announced five dates that will make up the Buffaloes' spring slate on Thursday. CU will play four of the five matches at home.

The Buffs return to the pitch on Friday, March 8. The team will host the Real Colorado Boy's 04 DA to open the season. Colorado has a little break before its next match at home against Air Force on April 7. Nebraska (April 20) and Wyoming (April 27) round out the home dates.

CU will play its lone away contest on April 13, traveling to BYU.

Colorado finished 13-4-3 on the season, going 5-4-2 in the Pac-12. The Buffs set program records in goals (47), assists (50) and total points (146). Second-team All-American Taylor Kornieck will be back for her senior campaign as will All-Pac-12 goalkeeper Jalen Tompkins. Colorado will return 15 players in all. The team will be without the talents of graduating seniors Jorian Baucom, Scout Watson, Nancy Best, Isobel Dalton, Sarah Kinzner, Megan Massey and Erin Greening.

Weird they're playing Real Colorado's 04 Boys Academy team. That's 8th and 9th grade boys. Not sure what CU expects to gain from that match.

Nice article (and video) with some news as the spring training period begins. (And, best wishes to Ms.'s. Baucom and Watson at their upcoming tryouts.)

Sanchez adds Two for the Fall
The Buffs have added two more players to its incoming class for 2019. UCLA transfer Hannah Sharts is already on campus and training with the Buffs. Megan Short will join the rest of the incoming freshman in the fall.

Sharts, a defender/midfielder from Newbury Park, Calif., played in six matches last season at UCLA. She earned four varsity letters at Westlake High School and led her team to three league titles. Sharts was a three-time All-CIF selection and was the Marmonte League MVP in 2016 and 2017.

"We are excited that Hannah has transferred in this semester," Sanchez said. "She is a player that we recruited out of high school and we feel she still has a ton of upside. Hannah is versatile and can play in the back or midfield. She is great in the air, strong in the tackle and is composed on the ball."

Short, a goalkeeper from Mission Viejo, Calif., will come to CU from the So Cal Blues. Short helped backend the Blues to a 2018 national title. She helped the Blues to two undefeated seasons in 2014-15 and 2016-17. She also has two track & field letters from Capistrano Valley High School.

NWSL Tryouts
Former Buffs Jorian Baucom and Scout Watson will head to the Pacific Northwest for an opportunity with the Reign FC (formerly Seattle Reign).

Training camp for Reign FC is set for Mar. 4 and they will open the season on April 13. Reign FC did not have any picks in the 2019 NWSL Draft that was held in January.

"We feel that it is a great opportunity for both of Jorian and Scout to earn roster spots," Sanchez added.

The Buffs had their 1st spring game of the year today.
(As @30Something mentioned a couple posts ago, it also seems to me a somewhat strange (at least to this casual fan) match against a U15 (???) boys' team, but I have faith the coaches have their good reasons.)

What I'd mainly note of it is that it's good to see that whoever is in the starting line-up is I assume healthy.

The Buffs are hosting a spring (off-season) match against Air Force starting in about 30 minutes.

The team hosts Nebraska this Saturday at noon in another off-season/ spring match. Should be another good test, as the Corn have outscored its opponents 15-0 in their 4 spring matches to date. (Was curious, so looked in the Buffs' Information Guide, and the Buffs and Huskers are tied 7-7-2 lifetime in REAL (fall season) matches.)

SHORT preview article, which also contains a interview with Coach Sanchez that mainly reviews the team's 0-1 loss at BYU this past weekend.

Buffs end the spring season slate of matches with a 0-0 draw vs. the Cowboys.

Probably the best news out of this one, at least from tweets, is that next year sophomore Kaleigh Webb (who @Bmixer noted in post #20 was on crutches for part of the last match) was in today's starting lineup, so must have avoided significant injury.

#ForeverBuff Erin Greening got I believe her 1st pro start for her Orlando Pride (NWSL) team yesterday. Looks like her team is struggling early in the year (they're 0-4-1 after losing 0-1 yesterday), but she played the full 90+ minutes on the back line. (Featuring, among others, superstars Marta and Alex Morgan, must have the team scratching its head how they've only scored one goal in 5 matches.)

Assume the team must be getting excited, as their French trip is closing in to starting-

As with volleyball, have found a resource (http://woso-stats.ml/college/2019/schedule/20) that starts putting all soccer teams' schedules together as other teams release their schedules. For the Buffs, looks like 4 early season matches have been listed in other teams schedules, with all 4 to be played in Boulder. Included in the list is a couple tough-looking matches against a couple old Big 12 rivals, who were in last year's NCAA tournament, as well as a Boston Univ. team that also made it to the Dance.
