'22 ND C Joe Hurlburt (Signed to COLORADO)

Randomly scrolled through some Big Ten fan sites. Ohio State and Minnesota fans are genuinely upset, Iowa fans figure they backed off of him because they got some 3 star big guy. (Sounds like Buff rationalization.)

Minnesota fan is pissed about losing recruiting battles to "the Colorados of the world". :ROFLMAO:

Welcome Joe! Show them what The Colorados Of The World can do!

Yeah, but how can they win if they don’t have the experience of playing 3A ball in Colorado? That’s where greatness lives.
True, except that the talent pool in Colorado 3A ball is probably substantially deeper than the talent pool in total of Wyoming high school ball and North Dakota high school ball combined.

Hurlburt's real competition probably came from playing AAU ball against teams from Minneapolis-St. Paul where there is a lot of serious talent.

Ignorant. Tad's averaged 21+ wins a year over his 11 seasons at Colorado. So for any recruit, CU has been a consistent winner that develops pro talent and graduates its players ever since those recruits matriculated from kindergarten.

Very few Power 6 programs can match CU's level of consistency over that period. Haven't had the Dance run or achieved a moment of eliteness, but it's definitely become a Top 30-40 destination in the nation for playing college hoops.

Yea, the Colorados of the world happened to have better talent this year than Minnesota. And I wonder how many players from the state of Minnesota in all of college basketball this season were better than Kin.

College programs don't recruit based on performance on your HS team. However, many fans base their recruiting insights on what they see in local HS games. That's the point being made.

The competition looks God awful in that highlight reel but Hurlburt has some nice skills. Great handles for a big. Gonna be interesting to see him against a huge step up in talent level.

Gonna have to make me a Roll Tad shirt.

Could point out that we have the #11 class in 2021 while Ohio State and Minnesota are 42 and 55, respectively, also.

Ummm, is it though? HS Basketball in this state is pretty much ass. Sorry, but true.

Compared to a lot of states Colorado HS basketball is pretty bad. Compared to some others it looks pretty decent.

Teams in Colorado rarely have multiple quality players like you see in some other states but there are a good number of quality individuals.

How many guys does Lovering face in Wyoming who are even lower D1 or D2 type prospects. Same thing in North Dakota.

It looks though like Hurlburt has played AAU ball in Minnesota which does have some quality talent for the population. In the 2020 class they had (24/7) one 5* (Suggs) and four 4* recruits plus some other guys who ended up at major conference programs.

By the way none of those guys stayed home to play for the Gophers.

Nick is correct in that the major programs don't recruit based on what they see in local HS games. Much more important is to see kids play against other top players in regional or even national competition. Doesn't matter what a 6'10" guy does against a 6'4" HS opponent, how does he play against the 6'9" kid who has some skills from another state.

CU has gotten some good players from the state of Colorado and I expect that will continue. It does seem though that compared to kids from some other states they take longer to adjust the the size and speed of the college game.
