I am extremely worried about the very obvious effect budget constraints had on this staff and the hires. They went cheap across the board for just about every position except for Kapilovic. From hiring a first time HC to hiring 2 coordinators who in their most recent roles weren't even coaches ...

While I share your concern, I think it's better than what MM did where he simply gave people he knew big raises. It feels like we went cheap but may have upside rather than overpaying for mediocrity. At least that's what I'm hoping.

You have access to the AD budget?

Big reach in my opinion.

That is definitely a glass half empty take. Have we ever had this many guys on staff who have Division I coordinator experience? Summers, Chev, Els, Johnson, Brumbaugh, Kapilovic. And we added a former head S&C guy to be an assistant S&C guy. Pupunu has to prove he can recruit at the P5 level, but everyone said we needed a Poly guy and we got one.

I agree we broke af, but we still improved the overall staff IMO. Hopefully MM can get a HC job next year while RG works on additional money for the staff.

Us being broke is actually the best case scenario here. If we had money and couldn't assemble a better staff Tucker's pull is as big as yours or mine and/or CU is seen as a toxic wasteland. I tend to believe that money talks and will attract people.

I’m sure that all of the new staff would appeciate the fact that the mighty allbuffs groupthink declares them the “budget option.” Wtf? The size queens are out in full force. So Phil Is a garbage running back because the Broncos didn’t pay him top dollar?

You’re out of your depth here if this is the caliber of comment you’re going to bring.

I like that the guys that are getting their first P5 opportunities (Tillman and Pupunu) both had long careers in the league at their coaching position. Not that it guarantees being able to recruit, but it is something easy that they can sell "knowing what it takes" since they don't have the established connections and name registration of the more veteran coaches.

.... or we have a bigger budget than the hires imply, but couldn't spend it on the staff for political reasons (looking at people like you here, Jack Kroll).

If that's the case, we may try to sneak that money in through the back door by expanding the support staff and then spend that money on the staff when the politics allow us to do so.

Remember when we thought Jeffcoat was going to clean up in the Metroplex because he won 2 rings with the Cowboys?

It seems to me Rick probably gave HCMT a decent budget pool for his staff. HCMT decided against spending most of the budget on a few big names, but instead building a larger staff of specialists (if I am following correctly, we have already announced new positions for a defensive analyst and S&T assistant). If it is the case, I like this decision as results will be less dependent on the individual coaches, but instead on a system. Let’s hope HCMT can get the pieces to work well with each other.

hmm, kinda doubt people like Kroll has any real power, but CU does CU sometimes, so you might be right.

Or we're paying a lot more for some of these guys than I'm guesstimating. Either way, I wanted a young hungry poly coach and we got one, so that's cool. Now if we can locate someone that has ever coached west of the Mississippi, that'd be real nice.

Kroll doesn't have any pull whatsoever, but we both know those people exist at CU and that together they can make certain things difficult politically.

Gotta have faith that A) he actually wants to recruit or B) if he doesn't, MT doesn't let him chill for several years before letting him go

Ya agree. But finding out the guy didn't like/wasn't able to fly frequently kind of killed that. Like I said, it doesn't guarantee success, but it certainly can't hurt.
