BOUDLER – Mike MacIntyre started off CU Buffs fall camp with an interesting tidbit.

“Jake (Moretti) and Chase (Newman) will not be back during this camp but they will be going during regular practice,” he said.

Moretti, from Cherry Creek, was an early enrollee from Pomona. He de-committed from Ohio State and spurred them to stay home in Colorado. You can read more about his recovery from a massive injury as well as his decision here.

Newman, an outside linebacker from La Mirada, CA has a PCL injury.

“They will most likely have to redshirt but they’re making great progress,” MacIntyre said. “Chase isn’t quite right. They both have redshirt years, and they can do that. We feel like that might be the way to go. They’re spending all their time with trainers.”

Sources told BSN Denver in May that Moretti was having issues with his nerves in his leg in which was operated on and that he was behind schedule. As he works to get feeling back below his surgically repaired knee.

“It’s his ankle and his knee, he’s still recovering,” MacIntyre said.

The third signee with a major injury walking into Boulder is Jaylon Jackson. Jackson was listed in spring but MacIntyre did not mention where he is at. Jackson is not listed as injured, unlike the other two.

As for who else is redshirting, we’ll let you know when we know.
