Over the next three weeks, BSN Buffs will be breaking down our top 20 Colorado Buffaloes entering the fall of 2017. These rankings were voted on by BSN Buffs editor Jake Shapiro and staff Chase Howell and Sam Weaver.
Perhaps overshadowed by their defensive prowess last season, Colorado’s stacked offense could steal the spotlight this fall as the Buffaloes make another run at a Pac-12 title. The roster boasts incredible depth at wide receiver, including rising senior Bryce Bobo, a dangerous weapon on the outside.
The ‘BlackOutBoyz’ are led by veterans Bobo, Devin Ross, Shay Fields and Jay MacIntyre, with plenty of talent behind them in Juwann Winfree, Kabion Ento, Jaylon Jackson, Lee Walker and others. With so much competition at the receiver position, Bobo has had to separate himself as a true threat, highlighted by his one-handed SportsCenter Top-10 touchdown grab against Oregon last year.
Bobo played in every game as a freshman and as a sophomore. In ten games last season, he racked up 494 yards and two touchdowns on 40 receptions, finishing third amongst Colorado wideouts behind Fields and Ross. Bobo provides height, speed and athleticism on the outside, and has also stepped in as a quarterback in Wildcat packages. He threw a 67-yard touchdown to running back Phil Lindsay against USC last season.
This year, Bobo will be catching passes from quarterback Steven Montez, who takes over the starting role from NFL-bound Sefo Liufau. The two have reportedly developed a strong chemistry through spring practice, which could mean more targets for Bobo if it translates to the field this fall.
As the Buffs look to replicate their 2016 success this season, Bobo’s continued development will be key to a multi-dimensional offense. With Fields, Ross and Bobo each playing a unique role, the Buffs receiving corps can attack opposing secondaries on all levels. Their success as a unit will be a huge factor in Colorado’s push for another winning season.
