Over the next three weeks, BSN Buffs will be breaking down our top 20 Colorado Buffaloes entering the fall of 2017. These rankings were voted on by BSN Buffs editor Jake Shapiro and staff Chase Howell and Sam Weaver.

The Colorado Buffaloes boast plenty of talent in their receiving corps, highlighted by the depth they have behind starters; Devin Ross, Bryce Bobo, Shay Fields and Jay MacIntyre. Junior college transfer Juwann Winfree is at the top of that list.

A torn ACL sidelined Winfree for the entirety of the 2016 season, but the 6-3, 205-pound wideout is healthy and determined to have an impact in 2017. After an impressive few days at fall camp last year, Winfree’s injury prevented him for competing for a starting spot. That could all change this season.

Winfree transfered to Colorado from Coffeyville Community College, where he racked up 837 yards and seven touchdowns on 55 receptions in 2015. He averaged 15.2 yards per catch at junior college and was considered by some to be the most talented receiving weapon on the Buffaloes’ roster.

There will be plenty of competition as Winfree vies for snaps, with Kabion Ento, Lee Walker and a bevy of freshman talent waiting in the wings behind the starting foursome of Ross, Fields, Bobo and MacIntyre. But Winfree has the potential to become an incredibly important weapon for the Buffs this season, with the speed and athleticism to dominate defensive backs and make big plays.

We put Winfree here, at No. 16 on our list of Top 20 Buffs, because we believe 2017 could be his breakout season. If he earns a hefty number of snaps, perhaps edging out one of the starters for more play time, he could finish the year much higher on this list.
