You may begin neg repping nik now.Would the Pac-12 expand beyond 16 teams?I toss this out not because I expect it to happen but because Larry Scott has worked up 16+ models since expansion first entered his radar in the winter/spring of 2010.
He and deputy commish Kevin Weiberg — who used to run the Big 12, don’t forget — have spent a lot of time on realignment, and they have thought ofeverything.
Again, I’m just thinking out loud … but how about the Pac-20:
Western Division
Arizona
Arizona State
USC
UCLA
Cal
Stanford
Oregon
Oregon State
Washington
Washington State
Eastern Division
Texas
Texas Tech
TCU
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Kansas
Kansas State
Rice
Colorado
Utah
(Why Rice? Not because of the Houston market or its football success but because the CEOs are intrigued by Rice’s academic clout.)
Could the Pac-20 happen?
I doubt it, partly because I’m not sure that the Pac-12 would be interested in aligning with the C part of TCU – for the same reasons it hasn’t been interested in BYU or Baylor.
But could we see a Pac-18, without TCU and Rice? Perhaps.
