BOULDER — The University of Colorado ski team will host the inaugural University of Colorado Jimmie Heuga Classic at Echo Mountain on November 28-29. The event will include a pair of FIS slalom races, the first on Friday night and the second Saturday morning.
It is not an official collegiate meet, as that schedule starts January 6 in Utah and includes a home meet for the Buffs in Steamboat Springs (Nordic) and Eldora (alpine) January 23-27, but skiers from many colleges are expected to be in attendance, skiing unattached. The event is also expected to attract several high level skiers as the timing fits before the start of the North American Cup and World Cup schedules.
“We wanted a way to get a quality race in as part of our training schedule, and the pieces just fell into place with Echo Mountain,” CU coach Richard Rokos said. “It is also an opportunity to recognize Jimmie Heuga and his contribution to sport of skiing and University of Colorado. I’m hoping this is something that turns into an annual event.”
