I don't post here much, but feel like voicing my opinion on this one. Charlie Strong is the prime candidate for our Head Coaching position. Charlie Strong has been a coach in some form or another with top BCS schools since 1986.
Charlie Strong wants an opportunity and I don't think it matters where. He feels left out of prior SEC coaching opportunities and I think he wants to make a statement.
The guy knows how to win. DC for 2 national title teams and may be 3 after this year. He understands how top 5 teams are built, knows how to recruit talent and will play the absolute best players no matter what.
Knows how to build a defense to stop the spread. Why? Because he practices against one of the best spread offenses in the nation everyday.
Knows how to recruit the south (SEC). Lets be honest, there are probably 5-6 Florida teams that are better than us. I think he could easily steal 4-5 recruits every cycle from the SEC. Maybe Meyer would push non-Florida commits to Strong just to keep them out of other SEC teams.
Still a young coach that would definitely bring fire and intensity. Ever watched a Florida game? Those guys can flat-out lay the wood and are always fired up.
He would be moderately cheap. Right now he is making $310K. We could probably land him for 5 years at $1 mil per year and make his contract very incentive heavy, ie: Big 12 north and Big 12 overall championships, Bowl game, BCS game, and National title.
Would stay here for 10+ years? Probably not. But the guy would make us competitive RIGHT NOW.
He feels that race has played a factor in his coaching opportunities and I feel Boulder would more than welcome him. His biggest struggle would be against the Admin of CU. But winning cures all and I think after 2-3 years, we would be in a BCS game.
