Cody's yearly passer rating from his 2nd thru 4th year in the program:
2007: 119.94
2008: 118.14
2009: 106.65
Here are the overall stats:
2007: 56.8 CMP%, 6.51 YPA, 1.29 TD-INT Ratio, 1.15 Sacks-Game Ratio
2008: 57.2 CMP%, 5.91 YPA, 1.70 TD-INT Ratio, 1.58 Sacks-Game Ratio*
2009: 53.0 CMP%, 5.63 YPA, 1.25 TD-INT Ratio, 2.67 Sacks-Game Ratio
*3 partial games played in 2008 skews sacks/game low
Every year, Cody has gotten more conservative. This is evidenced by his reducing YPA number and the fact he's taking more sacks instead of forcing throws. This has not, however, resulted in an improvement in completion percentage or TDs/INTs.
In my opinion, it's got to be 1 of 3 things:
1- Opposing defensive coordinators have realized Cody's limitations and have figured out a gameplan blueprint that he struggles against.
2- CUs quarterback coaching has been bad and has done nothing to develop Cody into a better player than he was as a RS-Freshman.
3- The offensive talent surrounding Cody (O-Line & Skill Positions) isn't as good as it was in 2007. Maybe because of guys that have left the program, maybe because we've missed on recruiting targets, maybe because the bulk of snaps don't go to our best athletes... or maybe all of this.
And maybe it's a combination of all 3 of these points. The scariest thing to me is that we may have just faced the 3 worst defenses on our schedule.
Can anyone think of anything else that would explain what's going on? Maybe something that would give a bit of hope that things might get better?
