Not much to say about Oregon State’s prospects for 2016, save for this: Look out, belooooooow!

There are four teams in contention for first place in the North and one team in contention for last.

Yes, I’m aware that transfer quarterback Darell Garretson looked good in the spring game. I’m also aware Garretson was facing the OSU defense in the spring game.

The Beavers have far too many issues to climb out of the division basement. Tops on that list is quality depth, or lack thereof, and a schedule that requires them to play 11 weeks in a row.

Coach: Gary Andersen
Season: Second
Record: 2-10
Win totals by season: 2
Job security: Better now than it will be at Thanksgiving
Notable: The last team to go winless in league player two years in a row was OSU, in the early 1980s.

Here we go …

Sept. 1: at Minnesota (Thursday)
Result: Loss
Record: 0-1
Comment: Considered giving the Beavers a victory – screwy things happen in openers – then thought better of it.

Sept. 10: Bye
Comment: Break comes awfully early – off a Thursday game, no less — and means OSU must grind through 11 consecutive Saturdays.

Sept. 17: vs. Idaho State
Result: Win
Record: 1-1
Comment: First game in more than two weeks will bring malfunctions, but not enough to cause a loss.

Sept. 24: vs. Boise State
Result: Loss
Record: 1-2
Comment: First game against FBS opponent in 23 days. Uh, oh.

Oct. 1: at Colorado
Result: Loss
Record: 1-3/0-1
Comment: One of the conference’s 2015 bottom feeders will be notably improved, and it’s not the Beavers.

Oct. 8: vs. Cal
Result: Loss
Record: 1-4/0-2
Comment: Last flicker of hope among OSU faithful disappears with decisive home loss to a team that won’t even finish in the top half of the division.

Oct. 15: vs. Utah
Result: Loss
Record: 1-5/0-3
Comment: Mismatch at the line of scrimmage, and nothing else matters as the losing streak hits four.

Oct. 22: at Washington
Result: Loss
Record: 1-6/0-4
Comment: In case this assignment wasn’t daunting enough, Huskies will be coming off a bye.

Oct. 29: vs. Washington State
Result: Loss
Record: 1-7/0-5
Comment: There was a time, not so long ago, that the Beavers owned WSU.

Nov. 5: at Stanford
Result: Loss
Record: 1-8/0-6
Comment: Pummeling.

Nov. 12: at UCLA
Result: Loss
Record: 1-9/0-7
Comment: Bad as they are, the Beavers aren’t bad enough to go 0-9 again. They’ll win one – just not this one.

Nov. 19: vs. Arizona
Result: Win
Record: 2-9/1-7
Comment: Here’s the victory: at home, against a second-level opponent that assumes victory – everyone beats OSU, right? — and get burned looking ahead to its rivalry game

Nov. 26: vs. Oregon
Result: Loss
Record: 2-10/1-8
Comment: Civil War was close last year and could be again. But Oregon makes the plays down the stretch.
