I am just glad he completed the road trip safely. Great spring break experience.
He better be recruiting every day!
Quiet period. He's out there just cheering on MBB, and I ****ing love it.
Quiet period be damned!!! It's all a ruse, Coach Tuck is out there recruiting Battey to play Tackle, either defensive or offensive, Evan's choice.
The BB team could also use Mustafa inside! Doubt anyone tries to run into him.
Good interview with Lance Carl from Stuart over at cuatthegame.com about the hiring process of Mel Tucker. He’ll also have two more parts with Carl regarding the assistant coaches and the roster.
I am super impressed with HCMT so far and all indications are he will move us up from the plateau we were stuck on. HCMT’s relentless recruiting effort is a big big upgrade over coach MMac. His focus and disciplined drive are also a step up from the old staff. That said there is a lot of MMac bashing going on that is really short sighted. MMac is a Buff. He put in his heart and soul to improve this team without taking shortcuts. If MMac hadn’t taken on the CU coaching challenge 5-6 years ago HCMT likely would not even be here now. After the OSU debacle we definitely needed a change at the top, but don’t forget that MMac helped fill the cup boards the HCMT will use as a base to launch us from. MMac was good for CU. I bet HCMT is going to be better, but I really appreciate the job MMac and his staff did to set up Tucker.
People forget how abysmally dark things were when he arrived. He may not have been the guy to lead us to the promised land but he left the Buff franchise in better shape than he found it.
Was not bad at all in 2013.
This goes to a conversation the other day about a head coach having to be a star if you want to build a big time program. They never promoted Mike MacIntyre like this to the public.
I think part of this is down to Tucker himself. And not necessarily because he wants to be in the spotlight himself, but because he realises how the game is played at the big schools and now their recruiting machines work.
Exactly. I don’t think Tucker is some self absorbed guy or anything, I think he knows that he has to become a brand almost as much as the program.
1-8 in conference play is not bad at all? The one win against a 1-11 Cal team? Sheesh Duff. Or is this just a ubl?
I believe the point was that the hire in 2013 was a good one. He was the right hire at the time.
The only thing that went wrong was him staying after 2016. It would have been rough on that 2017 class that is sort of foundation of the team right now but we probably could have attracted a good coach AND more big time assistants.
Hadn't seen this posted yet. A chance to see Tucker and others talk:
Fore sure. HCMT puts a lot more value on promotion and public presence than other coaches we've had here. Hawkins would have been on board with this sort of thing, but it would have been about self-promotion with him more than about the program.
True statement about Hawkins. HCMT sure seems to be wanting to be a long-term member of the whole Colorado community. That is a refreshing change from the previous HCMM attitude that seemed to always have one foot out the door.
I’m planning on going to this tonight. I have family in town that I think would enjoy seeing Ralphie.
I plan on being there as well. Tried buying tix and it says its sold out. Walk-ups allowed however
I’m expecting a spring practice sort of report.
I get this impression too, and man oh man I hope it's sincere and legitimate, rather than just what I'm wanting to believe.
Hey, he was told not to come here.
Was worth going to. Even though Ralphie never showed. Tucker just sounds like a football coach. Says exactly what you want to hear as a fan. And it doesn't feel empty when he says it. He believes he has a plan to win here. I hope we see the results on the field.
On recruiting, he said when they evaluate and a coach comes to him, the first question is who else is recruiting them. If it's San Jose State, it gives him pause and asks the coach, what's wrong with the kid or what don't we know?
He left it there......
I wanted ask him about Lichtenstein but nobody would have gotten the joke...
TUCKER 6-Month Check-in
I was on a long drive for work today and could not help but think how PROUD and how EXCITED I am that Mel Tucker is our coach!!! I know we all had a lot of fun with the speculation when the coaching search was happening, but as of this point about a half a year later, I am very happy that Coach Tucker is on our team and as mentioned, he feels like he wants to create something really special here and seems to have the confidence that it will happen. It is not going to happen in 1 year, but overall I love being a BUFFS FAN!!!
