At first blush, not a lot there for athletics. Reading between the lines, I see massive student housing planned for the area. That tells me they could be planning on tearing out the family housing at Arapahoe & Folsom along with the family housing on the east Campus. Doing those two things would open up a lot of area for athletic facilities.

Thoughts?

  • The northeast portion of the property on the map shows 81 acres of proposed flood storage, which would also include space for recreation fields and detention ponds.

Uh oh. Do not cross the Regents or you'll be sent to the detention ponds.

It has long been my hope that CU would re-do East Campus and Smiley Court to provide more family housing in those areas, opening up all of that area north of the creek to re-imagine the housing there while adding soccer & lacrosse stadiums along the creek. Heck, maybe there's a way to purchase the Naropa property while they're at it, which would allow Naropa to have the cash to realize its vision of having a unified campus somewhere in Boulder.

CU Boulder South plan

University of Colorado officials on Monday detailed long-term plans for the 308-acre site at Table Mesa Drive and U.S. 36. They include:
— 750 apartments and 375 townhomes for campus workforce, graduate students and non-freshman undergraduates on 68 acres
— 700 parking spots to go along with the housing
— 8 academic buildings on 40 acres
— 3 recreation fields on 81 acres of flood-storage land
— 66.2 acres of land left undeveloped
Read more about CU's plans, and comment on them, at colorado.edu/cubouldersouth

It's unclear to me whether the South Campus Tennis Courts and Buffalo Run XC Courses will remain there.
