CU track and field: Buffs look to change perception at NCAA prelims

Underway right now is the women's high jump. Buffs volleyball player Kelsey English will be in the 2nd heat.

Jake Hurysz was just able to hold onto the final spot and he advances to the NCAA championships as well

The women's 1500m is up next, but the Buffs didn't have anyone qualify. I hope Saarel and Hurysz aren't too tired because they will be back racing in about an hour and 20 minutes in the 5000m.

Kelsey English ended up finishing tied for 25th in the women's high jump

Men's 5000m is up next. There are 2 heats and the top 5 from each heat and the next 2 advance. In the first heat for the Buffs is Morgan Pearson, Ben Saarel, Pierce Murphy, and Jake Hurysz.

I opened the link to the video on the Arkansas site yesterday just in time to see Christian McCaffrey's squeeze get eliminated from the 100m with a false start. It's a tough penalty to pay for a simple mistake.

Pierce Murphy is 6th and will have to try to hold on to a spot at the championships with the second and last heat coming up.

Saarel, Pearson, and Hurysz finished the first heat 19th, 20th, and 21st

With 2 laps to go, it doesn't look like there will be any Buffs in the top 5. I can't tell where the Buffs are at this point, but it looks like the best bet is for Pierce Murphy to hold onto his spot.

Still waiting on results from the men, the women are getting ready to start. In heat 1 is Abby Levene and in heat 2 is Carrie Verdon.

It's hard to tell where the Buffs are, but they're not in the top 6 with less than 3 laps to go, so it doesn't look like anyone will advance from this heat.

Verdon has fallen back to 6th. She needs to stay top to guarantee a spot in the championships.

Verdon was able to hold on to the 5th spot and advance to the championships.

That's it for the Buffs here at the west regionals. The NCAA championships will be held starting June 11 in Eugene, Oregon.
