BOULDER – The University of Colorado women’s soccer team earned its second straight win on Friday afternoon, shutting out the Cincinnati Bearcats 1-0 at Prentup Field.

The Buffaloes and Bearcats played to a scoreless tie in the first half with Colorado putting together a few scoring opportunities, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Less than 10 minutes into the contest, freshman Erin Greening connected on a header attempt, forcing Cincinnati goalkeeper Natalie Smith to dive and push it past the end line.

The Daily Camera also has an article (pretty extensive with lots of quotes) on the match, and the season to date, with some emphasis on the early contributions the Buffs have already received from their freshmen- http://www.buffzone.com/ci_28761913/cu-soccer-freshmen-lift-buffs-past-cincinnati .

The start of that article (written by Gary Baines)-

Despite their names, football and futbol obviously differ significantly. One of the many ways, as University of Colorado soccer coach Danny Sanchez noted Friday evening, is that unlike in most big-time college football programs, many freshmen recruited for college soccer teams are expected to contribute on the field in their first collegiate seasons.

That's been evident so far this year for the Buffs, and was especially so on Friday at Prentup Field. In the only goal of the game in a 1-0 CU victory over Cincinnati, both the score and the assist came from freshmen.

Sarah Kinzner, from Calgary, fed the ball to Erin Greening, from Piedmont, Calif., and Greening capitalized with a goal from about 12 yards out just after halftime to give the Buffs the only score they'd need in the nonconference matchup.

This program is worth cheering for. Sanchez is a winner and he seems to be building something special.
