WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The University of Colorado men's golf team arrived here Saturday ahead of the NCAA Championship Regional with one singular goal in mind: advance to the NCAA Finals for the first time since 2002.

The Central/Purdue Regional begins Monday, with coach Roy Edwards' team getting in some practice when it arrived here ahead of a practice round on the Kampen Course at the Birck/Boilermaker Golf Complex, a 7,411-yard, par-72 links-style layout that has been rated one of the top collegiate courses in the nation and one of the most difficult golf courses in Indiana.

Colorado, ranked No. 32 in the nation (GolfStat; No. 26 Golfweek) is the No. 6 seed in the field, its highest since the regionals went to six sites in 2009, when the Buffaloes were a No. 7 seed. This is the fifth straight year the Buffaloes have qualified for the NCAA postseason, and the 21st time in the 29-year history of regional play.

Colorado will be represented by senior Ethan Freeman, one of Friday's graduates, juniors Spencer Painton, Yannik Paul and John Souza and freshman Victor Bjorlow. All competed in the Pac-12's and were separated by a total of five strokes over 54 holes
...

In the first round, the Buffaloes will be paired with Auburn and South Carolina and will start on the No. 10 tee at 6:20 a.m. MDT. The weather forecast at this point appears perfect: low 70s for temperatures and sunny skies with negligible winds.

Five teams will also advance to the finals out of five other regionals being held in Auburn, Wash.; Austin, Texas; Baton Rouge, La.; Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and Palo Alto, Calif. ... Best wishes to the golf team over the next few days- earn one of those qualifying spots!

As with the women in their regionals last week, looks like the men have not had the greatest start in their front 9 of round one. The women were at least able to move a little ways up the leaderboard in their back 9. Hopefully the men will duplicate.

Article after the 1st day of play- http://www.cubuffs.com/news/2017/5/...-in-11th-at-ncaa-central-purdue-regional.aspx . Buffs are going to have to put it into overdrive the last 2 rounds to qualify, as it looks like they are 12 shots out of the last qualifying 5th place position after round one.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The University of Colorado men's golf team didn't start here as hoped in the first round of the NCAA Central/Purdue Regional, ending the first round in 11th place.

Colorado, ranked No. 32 in the nation (GolfStat; No. 26 Golfweek) and the No. 6 seed in the 13-team field, started on No. 10 and was even through six holes. But the Buffaloes went eight straight holes without a birdie while collectively playing those at 14-over (9-over by the eventual scorers). CU finished the day at 16-over 304.

No. 17 Nevada-Las Vegas recorded the only subpar round Monday, a 1-under 287, which leads No. 8 Illinois and No. 44 New Mexico by one shot. No. 28 South Carolina is fourth (291), with No. 5 Florida and the regional's top seed in a three-way tie for fifth with No. 20 Auburn and No. 38 Purdue at 292.

The top five teams and top individual who is not a member of those squads will advance to the NCAA Championship Finals, scheduled for May 26-31 in Sugar Grove, Ill.

Unless they have one of the greatest comebacks in golf history in them, looks like it's "just one of THOSE tournaments" for the Buffs, and I probably won't bother to give any more updates unless there's a major turnaround. Still, of course, hope they finish stong fighting for every stroke on every remaining hole.
(As can be seen below, they're currently in last, and more importantly are 29 shots out of the 5th and final qualifying spot.)

Horrible showing. Solid season, but not a good way to end it.

Sucks....wonder how much impact from top player turning pro right before they hosted the conf tourney.

Wonder what happened to Florida today. They were in 2nd place and a national title contender... went +24 and didn't make cut to NCAA Finals.
