Another big weekend for Buff LACROSSE (6-5 overall. 4-1 in conference play) as they host the #20 ranked USC Trojans (11-2, 6-1) Friday afternoon, followed up with a Sunday noon matinee against the ASU Sun Devlis (4-8; 3-4).

I may have missed earlier release(s), but I just saw that the NCAA released an RPI ratings after last weekend's games (https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/lacrosse-women/d1/ncaa-womens-lacrosse-rpi). In that, CU is at #55 (out of 126 teams in D1 lacrosse), while USC is #36 and ASU #76. (Note that due to less teams competing in this sport at the D1 level compared to the basketballs, soccer or volleyball, it's a smaller tournament, with 29 teams in total competing, 15 of which are auto-qualifiers as conference champions and 14 at-large.)

Both games are slotted to be on one or more Pac 12 Network channels. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this thread.)

Go Buffs!!!

BOULDER - The Colorado lacrosse team returns to conference play this week, hosting No. 20 USC Friday night and ASU Sunday.

The Buffs (6-5, 4-1) are on a three-game win streak, most recently defeating San Diego State 17-4 at home over the weekend.

During the game, Charlie Rudy scored another hat trick, recording her 10th of the season out of 11 games. Rudy leads the Buffs in scoring and is 2nd in the Pac-12 with 41 total goals. She's tied for seventh in the NCAA in goals per game with 3.73.

Against SDSU, Sam McGee added another five goals to her season total. The sixth-year graduate student has scored three goals or more in her last three games to have 35 goals so far this season. She's currently second on the team in goals and is 21st in the NCAA in goals per game with 3.18 goals.

Attacker Zoe McElhaney had another strong draw control game against SDSU, earning 15 draws. In total, the Buffs earned 20 draws against the Aztecs while SDSU only managed to earn 5 draws.

In their game against the Aztecs, Danielle Heintz filled in the net for all 60 minutes for the first time this season. During the game, she had six saves and faced 12 shots.

The Buffs face No.20 USC this Friday at 4 p.m. MT and ASU at 12 p.m. MT this Sunday.

The Trojans:

Although USC (11-3, 6-1) has a perfect record at home, Southern California has struggled more on the road and is 3-3 for away games.

USC leads the Pac-12 after defeating Stanford 10-7 at home over the weekend. The victory helped elevate the Trojans' Il/IWLCA ranking from 21 to 20. USC had dropped in the poll after losing 15-12 to Stanford the week prior.

Earlier this season, the Buffs and the Trojans met in Los Angeles where CU fell in a 17-13 loss. CU will be looking to split their season series with USC this Friday.

The Sun Devils:

ASU (4-8, 3-4) is on a one-game winning streak after dominating Cal in a 15-6 victory while at home over the weekend. The win helped Arizona State keep their position at fourth in the Pac-12.

When the two teams met earlier this season, the Buffs defeated the Sun Devils 17-13. In that meeting, five different players scored for CU. Sam McGee recorded six goals, the most for any Buff in a single game this season.

If the Buffs defeat both USC and ASU, they'll be the Pac-12's new leader.

USC scored 4 in a row before CU (once more Rudy) finally gets on the board again.

It's 13-12 Buffs going into the final quarter.

Game Day (!!!) with the scheduled opening draw around 2 hours away. (Looks like they have some special events for kids today.)

Tight 2nd quarter where the Buff lead fluctuated from 2-4 goals ends with the Buffs up 4 (11-7) heading into halftime after a nice free position blast goal by McGee with 15 seconds left in the quarter.

The 3rd quarter was another tight one, and the Buffs took a 13-10 lead into the final quarter.

In the 4th, each team has scored one, and it's 14-11 with around 10 minutes left in the game.

Their goalie is hot right now, and leads in the save category 13-7.

Buffs get the win 15-12!

I'd say a huge defensive stand from ~5-1/2 minute to ~ 4 minute mark was key, as ASU had some momentum and were looking for a quick goal. Instead, the Buff D frustrated the Sun Devils which led to the 90 second clock go to 0 for a turnover.

BOULDER – For the first time since 2019, Colorado Lacrosse has swept Arizona State during the regular season with its 15-12 victory over the Sun Devils here Sunday afternoon.

The Buffaloes (7-6, 5-2 Pac-12) were able to produce enough goals on the offensive end to prevent ASU (4-10, 3-6 Pac-12) from completing a comeback; however Colorado seemed to struggle executing as a team at times.

"Overall, we're very capable, but for some reason after playing a tough game on Friday, we can't show up mentally or physically on Sunday to compete," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden stated after the game. "Whether we expect things to be easy, or we're a little tired, we're not doing the things we practice all the time. We're undisciplined, and we have to find a way to do better. This team seriously wants to compete for a championship."

Despite the overall performance, Colorado's offense was clicking today. Ashley Stokes had a terrific game, scoring two goals and racking up five assists. Sam McGee led CU in goals with four followed by Charlie Rudy who put three in the back of net. Zoe McElhaney also had a solid performance this afternoon as she accounted for 11 of the team's 19 draw controls while also scoring a goal in the third quarter.

Colorado lacrosse added one to the win column; however this team knows they have to play better than they did today in this final stretch of games. The Buffaloes have three regular season games remaining, including Stanford and Cal on the road and then Oregon at home.

"We have two practices here before we head to Stanford, and we don't have time to start over. We can't coach all the things we've been coaching for six months again, and when we get into a game, they're better than that," said Whidden. "They have to demand more from themselves and they have to think about how they're preparing and what their priorities are. If they really want to win, we're capable of doing that, but things have to change a little bit for us, especially on the mental side of how we approach things."
...

UP NEXT:

Colorado Lacrosse will travel away to play Stanford on Friday, April 21st and Cal on Sunday, April 23rd.
