Buff LACROSSE (4-5 overall; 3-1 in the Pac 12) is back on the road for a one game weekend (assume only one because the Ducks are their designated "travel partner" in lax) at Oregon (3-6, 0-4) this Saturday evening.

The game is scheduled to be shown on the Pac 12 Network. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this thread.)

BOULDER - The Colorado women's lacrosse team hits the road to face Oregon this Saturday at 5 p.m. MT.

The Buffs (4-5, 3-1) are currently second in the Pac-12 conference, below No.18 USC who they lost to in a 17-13 battle over the weekend. The Ducks (3-6, 0-4) haven't won a conference game yet and are last in the Pac-12.

Colorado will be on the hunt to redeem themselves after falling to the Ducks 14-10 in the first round of last year's Pac-12 postseason tournament. In 14 meetings, it was the only time CU has lost to Oregon.

Fifth-year graduate student Charlie Rudy leads both the Buffs and the Pac-12 in goals, already posting 32 this season. The attacker has also earned eight hat tricks in nine games this year and is tied for 12th in the NCAA with 3.56 goals per game.

Trailing Rudy offensively is sixth-year graduate student Sam McGee with 26 goals this season. McGee notched six goals against ASU over the weekend, setting a new record for this season with the most goals scored in a single game by a player on the team. McGee also set a new personal career record with the six goals.

Attacker Zoe McElhaney played a crucial role in getting her team valuable possession time in their game against USC last weekend. The junior from Frisco, Texas earned 18 draw controls against the Trojans, setting a new career high and tying a Pac-12 record for most draw controls in a single game. McElhaney also earned her first career hat trick against ASU with three goals.

Defensively, Sophie Halus and Jordan Johnson lead the Buffs in caused turnovers with nine a piece. Goalkeeper Grace Donnelly is first on the team in ground balls with 22 while Halus is second with 14.

Donnelly is currently second in the Pac-12 with a .458 save percentage and is third in the conference with 71 total saves. The senior is 50th in the NCAA with 8 saves per game.

CU will look to improve their away record to 3-3 on Saturday at 5 p.m. MT against the Ducks.

The Ducks

Although Oregon won their season opener, the Ducks have struggled since then and are on a four game losing streak.

One of Oregon's largest struggles has been earning draw controls. The Ducks' only have 91 draw controls this season while their opponents have earned 146 draw controls when playing them.

To earn another victory over Oregon, the Buffs will need to find a way to shut down the Ducks' top two scorers, Morgan McCarthy and Gabby Cleveland. McCarthy has earned 20 goals this season while Cleveland has acquired 19.

All the more important to win this because the Pac-12 programs do not have good RPI numbers. With the horrible non-conference performance, CU has to win the conference to make the NCAAT.

Buffs Defeat Oregon In Overtime

EUGENE, Ore. - Colorado lacrosse persevered through rainy conditions Saturday afternoon, defeating Oregon at Papé Field in a 15-14 overtime thriller.

The Buffs (5-5, 4-1) largely controlled the first half, leading 9-5 at halftime, but a late surge with five straight goals from the Ducks (3-7, 0-5) took the two teams to overtime. CU trailed by two in the final minutes of the fourth quarter before two goals from Morgan Pence evened things up at 14-14.

"In the end, this is a win and one we needed," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "I am proud of how our team stepped up [when we were] down two [goals] with 3.5 minutes left. We needed to make plays and we did. That is huge for us, especially with one of our leaders on the bench. I am really proud of them and we can look to build off of that fight."

Colorado struggled to earn draw controls today, trailing 13 to Oregon's 20. However, the team managed to earn back possession through 11 caused turnovers, while the Ducks only had two. Both Charlie Rudy and Sophie Halus earned two caused turnovers a piece for the Buffs.

"Tonight was a game we needed to win and we found a way. We were too casual in a lot of little plays where we normally execute better," Coach Whidden stated after the game "We have to fix this moving forward and our leaders on the team, including myself, need to do a better job in how we step onto the field and the intensity and purpose at which we approach everything we do. Hopefully we learn from this game, the same lesson we should have learned last weekend and last year - nothing is given, we have to earn everything."

Rudy had another strong day offensively, putting away five goals. She was followed by Sam McGee who earned four and Pence who had three. Ashley Stokes scored twice, including the game winning goal in overtime.

"I believe we can compete with anyone in our conference, but [we] also can lose to anyone depending on our mindset and how we commit to the little things," said Whidden.
...

The Ducks surged forward in the fourth quarter, evading the Buffs' defense and earning five unanswered goals to take the lead 14-12. Pence finally ended Oregon's rally, scoring back-to-back goals in the last two and a half minutes to tie the game 14-14 and sending the two teams to overtime.

McGee won Colorado's first and only draw control in overtime, and Coach Whidden called a timeout with 2:36 left on the clock. After the timeout, the Buffs passed around Oregon's defense until Stokes finally saw her opening and scored to end the game.
