The current system is a joke when you consider that Georgia will probably play in a major bowl while not even winning their half of the SEC conference. That clearly exposes the farce of an argument that every game is a playoff game in the college. Actually it looks more like every game is a popularity contest to keep your ranking. Then there is the fact that every number 2 team has lost this year demonstrating that the pollsters and the system can not seem to identify who the second best team is. How Hawaii is not ranked 2nd is completely beyond me. They have yet to lose.
I can tell you this; if you knew your season was over by not making it to the championship game then every game would be a playoff game.
excellent point-
the regular season would mean alot if this 16 team playoff
were to be used- plus....
the better the record, the better the ranking which means
HOME playoff games against what's on paper
an easier opponent-
I love the idea of including the WAC, MWC and the other
Mid Major conference winners. Just how good is Hawaii ?
BYU ?? This system would show us. UGA and BYU-
I'd think UGA would beat them by 14 but who knows ?
Could Brennan pass for 500 yds against KU ?
This would be compelling theatre.
And the arguement that 8 teams are better than 16 ??
Don't agree- we are only talking 1 extra week. Go to 8 teams and we can't include the 'fun factor' of having all
11 conference winners.
ALSO- teams will give their collective left nuts to be a part
of the 5 'at large' births. The regular season would still be
very important.
I sure hope I'm alive to see a playoff system.
