Reasons to be optimistic for next season.
We bring back our offense. Seriously. And while the O started pretty slowly this season, we started accumulating decent yardage in our final games of the season. If we can only score in the red zone, this can be a potent unit (as is mine, when I don't shower).
O-line: Underperformed this year, yes. However, add a year of experience and bring everybody back. At some point these guys will get it (?).
Receivers: Our weakness becomes a strength next season. McKnight, Simas, Will Jeff, Simmons and add Clemons, Darden and Ussery. There's reason to be excited.
QB: I like Hansen, and he's proven he can distribute the ball. We've got a great backup in Cody (assuming that Hansen's our starter next season).
Backfield: We lose Behrens, but return Stewart, Lockridge and Sumler.
Tight Ends: Geer and Devanny gone, but Deehan has shown flashes of brilliance. We'll need some depth, but don't we have a local kid who redshirted who some consider the steal of last year's class?
We lose some talent on the defensive side of the ball, but Syko should be delighted that we return our entire D-line except for maybe Taj Kaynor. The starters are back, anyway and have shown some real bright moments. I hope Kasa sticks around.
Linebackers: Smart and Moehler--two solid playmakers gone. But assuming we don't have a lot of transfers, we've got some real talent waiting in the wings.
The secondary will be pretty hard hit. Brown and Burney will be missed.
I know there's many who don't have a lot of confidence in this coaching staff to maximize the talent on the team...but, put that in the back of your mind. A year of growth can do wonders. A year of growth, and maybe a new Special Teams coach.
