... Or does the 2009 Buffs' personnel, especially on offense, match up well with the 2001 Big 12 Champion Buffs?
Quarterback:
2001 - Craig Ochs and Bobby Pesavento split the starts, neither a fixture in the CU record books;
2009 - Cody Hawkins and Tyler Hansen - you know the story.
Running back:
2001 - Chris Brown and Bobby Purify split the carries; both go for over 900 yards;
2009 - Speedy Stewart and Darrell Scott looking to share the carries;
Offensive line:
2001 - Five players in for at least 800 of 886 offensive plays. All five drafted by the NFL (or, in the case of Marwan Hage, the CFL);
2009 - Buffs loaded with potential NFL talent on the offensive line;
Tight end:
2001 - Mackey Award winner Daniel Graham;
2009 - Mackey Award finalist Riar Geer;
Wide Receiver:
2001 - Possession receiver Derek McCoy; some speed to keep defenses honest;
2009 - Possession receiver Scotty McKnight; some speed to keep defenses honest.
We remember the 2001 Buffs as 10-3 Big 12 Champions. But in August, they were just a bunch of guys coming off of a 3-8 season in 2000.
I'm just sayin' .... :thumbsup:
