The term "fan" derives from "fanatic". Fanatics of any variety aren't a rational group. They tend not to be grounded in reality.
A fanatic wouldn't calmly accept the befuddled performance I witnessed last night. A fan wouldn't calmly accept the inevitable blowout as the Sooners did exactly what they wanted with our Buffs.
A fan would throw ****, and break **** and scream obscenities at the TV. I did none of that. In fact, I haven't all season. I don't think I did the second half of last season either.
I can't remember the last time I ran to the window after we stuffed a team on third and short, or intercepted a ball, or scored a long touchdown and--at the top of my lungs-- yelled, "**** yeah mother****ers, **** yeah! **** yeah! Lick my ****ing grundle bitches! **** yeah! Go Buffs, mother****ers!!!!"
I don't do that anymore, and I'm certain it's not because it upsets my wife, and it's definitely not because I'm more mature.
Nope. I'm no longer fanatical. I support the Buffs, and watch every game. I talk about them every day. I wear the gear. But I don't indulge that over the top behavior that makes a fan a fan.
