Larry Zimmer has spent more than half his life using his classic voice to describe some of Colorado's iconic sports moments to his radio listeners.

He went more than two months without talking and three months without being able to swallow because of damage to his throat and vocal cords.

Now he has his sights set on returning to the KOA radio booth at 79 years young to resume his duties calling University of Colorado football, possibly as early as the March 15 spring game. If he can make it, it will be the first CU sporting event he has attended since the Oct. 4 football game against Oregon State.

"I hope so," Zimmer said. "There is nobody saying I can't."

We need to bring some "Thank you" and "Welcome Back" signage to the Spring Game for Zim if he is able to be on the air for the game. Pac-12 Network will pick that up.

Really glad to hear this! Zim is a great guy (but a pretty mediocre space shuttle simulator pilot).

One of my fondest childhood memories was listening to Bob Martin and Larry Zimmer on Sunday afternoons.....looking forward to hearing Zim back on the Buff broadcasts this fall.

Pretty ****ed up how much damage medical personnel did to him. Going to the hospital is dangerous.

Unfortunately, the other option was probably death if they didn't get those things done. There are things that cause issues medically that you have to recover from if you want your life saved often. One of them is CPR, ribs usually get broke half the time.
