#18 ranked (per topdrawersoccer; unranked in coaches' poll) SOCCER (10-3-2 overall, 2-2-2 in Pac 12 play) has its last 2 match road trip of the regular season as they head up to Washington to face the WSU Cougars (8-5-1, 1-4-1) Thursday night, followed by a Sunday matinee with the Washington Huskies (6-5-3, 1-4-1).

In the latest official RPI report (https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-women/d1/ncaa-womens-soccer-rpi), the Buffs are at #48, while WSU is #41 and Washington #76 .
((Not sure if it's a factor in soccer, but as I mentioned in last week's preview, in a volleyball forum I read that a rating/ ranking I hadn't heard of, KPI, is a primary criteria this season in tournament selection in THAT sport. Just in case it (https://faktorsports.com/) is also going to be used in soccer, wanted to note that the Buffs are #49, Cougars #57 and Huskies #96 in KPI right now.))

Both matches are scheduled to be shown on a Pac 12 Network channel. (More detail and links provided near the bottom of this post.)

Go Buffs!!!

PULLMAN, Wash. — Colorado heads back out on the road this weekend as the Pac-12 season continues in Washington. The Buffaloes will open the week against Washington State on Thursday night at the Lower Soccer Field (8 p.m. MT).

Colorado (10-3-2, 2-2-2 Pac-12) will hope to end its three-game winless streak against the Cougars. The Buffs have gone 0-1-2 over the last three matches and are coming off a 1-1 draw to No. 13 USC on Saturday.

Shyra James got back to her scoring ways in LA, converting on a penalty kick for the Buffs' lone goal. The goal was her 12th of the season and marked a new career-high for the senior. She continued to lead the Pac-12 in goals and points (26).

"I think it was probably one of our most complete performances on the road— against a top 15 team," head coach Danny Sanchez explained. "Especially after giving an early goal. It could have been easy to hang our heads. But we stuck to the game plan."

Another streak on the line on Thursday night will be the team's five-game unbeaten stretch on the road this season. The Buffs are 4-0-1 this season away from Prentup. It's the team's longest unbeaten streak since going 4-0-2 for a stretch in 2018.

"We've been good on the road this year," Sanchez added. "We have the right mindset and we're excited to get out there. We know the challenges of these matches and the individual talent of the players on these teams. We know how well they're coaches. However, I feel we're in a good place and excited to get out there."

Washington State (8-5-1, 1-4-1 Pac-12) owns an 8-4-1 record over the Buffs. CU's last win against the Cougars came in Boulder in 2018. The two teams tied last season in Pullman, with Civana Kuhlmann getting the Buffs' goal.

WSU's lone conference win this season came in a 2-1 decision at Arizona. The Cougars started Pac-12 play with a three-game stretch against No. 2 Stanford, No. 19 USC and No. 5 UCLA.

"Washington State has had some good results, but they're kind of in the same boat as we are," Sanchez noted. "They really need another big result in Pac-12 play. That's going to be an NCAA Tournament game [on Thursday]. They'll have a huge crowd. The weather looks good. We'll be ready to go for that."

Thursday's match will be broadcast on Pac-12 Mountain.

WSU goes up 0-1 in the 23rd minute on a 2-2 breakaway that leads to a shot from the top of the box that the CU goalie can't get to.

0-1 is the halftime score.

(Some one else may need to step up offensively in this one for the Buffs if they're to mount a comeback, as their leading scorer by far this season James (she has 12 while no one else has more than 3 2) looks to be in uniform but didn't play at all in the 1st half.)

WSU gets the win 0-1.

A whopping 5 shots for the whole match by the Buffs is NEVER going to cut it. Be interesting to see what the coaches try to change offensively Sunday (especially if James is still out).

Colorado Closes out the Weekend at UW

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. MT in Seattle

SEATTLE — The Colorado Buffaloes hope to get back in the win column when they take on the Washington Huskies on Sunday. The Buffs enter the match on the wrong end of a four-game winless streak.

Thursday's loss was the first for CU on the road this season. The Buffs four wins away from Boulder are the most since 2018 (5).

"We're looking forward to having an opportunity to bounce back," head coach Danny Sanchez commented. "There were some positives we can take out of Thursday, but it's tough to get results on the road and in the Pac-12."

Colorado (10-4-2, 2-3-2 Pac-12) got the weekend started with a 1-0 loss at Washington State on Thursday. The Buffs held a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal over the Cougars, but the one shot for WSU found the back of the net. CU played without its leading goal-scorer, Shyra James, against the Cougars. The Buffs would only get five shots on Thursday without her in the lineup.

The last CU goal to come from outside of James was Emerson Layne's goal in the 25th minute at Oregon State. Since then Colorado has scored two goals, both from James, in the last four matches.

"I thought we defended well for, for the most part on Thursday," head coach Danny Sanchez reiterated. "We didn't create enough opportunities. Washington is on a roll defensively and attack-wise. We're still going to have to be stingy defensively, but we're really going to have to create more on the attack.

"I thought we pressed a little bit once we broke the pressure on Thursday and got a little impatient. We're going to have to be better with the ball in the final third to create more opportunities."

Washington (7-5-3, 2-4-1 Pac-12) is unbeaten in its last three matches. The Huskies have wins over Arizona and Utah and a draw against No. 2 Stanford in the stretch. UW has scored eight goals in the last three matches. Olivia Juarez, the reigning Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week, has made 21 saves in the three matches, allowing five goals.

Sunday's match will be carried on Pac-12 Washington and is set for a 1 p.m. MT kickoff.

No score at the half.

Wasn't able to catch the 1st half, but per Livestats, the Buffs lead in shots 5-2, but none of the CU shots were on goal while both of Udubs' were.

And the Huskies immediately respond with a goal in the 63rd minute to tie it back up.

1 all is the final.

Of course, always want the win once CU gets the 1st goal, and I'd say other than in the offensive final 3rd of the pitch the Buffs looked the stronger side, but I guess overall hard to complain about a road point (although they need to get multiple wins in their final 3 matches).

RPI is not looking good in terms of making the NCAA tourney - #68 after the Washington trip with the loss to WSU and the tie with UDub.

ASU is the highest ranked of the final three on the schedule at #22. So, not a lot of opportunity to move up.
