BOULDER—The No. 20 Colorado women's soccer team returns to Prentup Field this week for a pair of home matches, following its split with the Bay-area schools last weekend.

Colorado picked up a solid 3-0 win over California to start to the week, extending its unbeaten streak to a program record 16 games. The Buffaloes suffered their first setback of the season last Sunday, falling to top-ranked Stanford.

"It was, for the most part, a good trip to the Bay-area," head coach Danny Sanchez noted. "I thought we played really well on Thursday. Any result you get on the road in the Pac-12 is big. Just look around the league. Teams do well at home and struggle on the road. It is just the nature of soccer at any level."

The schedule does not get any kinder for the Buffs. After facing the No. 1 team in the land, CU draws a pair of top-10 matchups this week. Colorado will open on Thursday against No. 2 Southern California (3 p.m.) and continues with No. 8 UCLA (2 p.m.) on Sunday. Both games will be broadcast across the Pac-12 Networks.

"We have two really good teams coming in," Sanchez added. "USC is on a roll. We were on a roll. We hit a bump in the road on Sunday, but we are excited to be back home. These are two very good teams that are battling. This will be high-end college soccer. You are not going to get better matches than these this weekend."
...

The No. 2 Trojans enter the week winners of their last five matches. USC outscored its opponents 10-0 last week, shutting out the Oregon schools with a pair of 5-0 decisions. The Trojan offense is ranked second in the nation, scoring 2.81 goals per game. Penelope Hocking is tied with Baucom as the conference's top goal-scorer with 12 on the season. USC's lone loss on the season came in overtime at Stanford.

The No. 8 Bruins have won their last six matches, allowing just two goals in the process. Sophomore Ashley Sanchez has contributed a goal or an assist in each of the last six games. She leads the team in scoring with seven goals, five assists and 19 points.

#PackPrentup: Faculty and staff can get $5 general admission tickets by using the promo code: STAFF for Thursday's game. Fans can also get (2) premium seat tickets for $15 on game day or online with the promo code: PACKPRENTUP

Kick-or-Treat: There will be free candy and activities for kids 8th grade and under on Sunday. The team will stick around after the game and sign autographs on the field. Fans can get a $5 general admission ticket by showing a football ticket from Saturday's game against Oregon State.

This week's soccer show -

And, with Halloween approaching, the Buffs may be short (I believe) a midfielder and goalie this week, as they've changed into fierce creatures of the deep -

Didn't get to the match until the second half. The Buffs were down a goal they really come out with determination. They weren't always on target with passes, but they were aggressive. And of course Tatum hit the post with time running out, and they the team weren't able to convert the rebound. Man, was she down after the match.

USC was often dangerous in the second half, but the Buffs seemed always get a player in position to make a play and of courser there was JJ who was able to show how good she is ruling the box. Great match by her.

The Buffs gave a good effort and will of course be very disappointed at the result.

0-1 Bruin lead at the half.

ucla holds a 9-6 shot advantage and 4-0 on shots on goal.

One yellow card apiece already for each team (Baucom for the Buffs).

Buffs tie it up 1-1 on a Kornieck goal!!!

From live stats-
"
68:45 Colorado GOAL by COLO Kornieck, Taylor; Assist by Kingsbury, Chaynee and Aaknes, Kelsey; Goal number 9 for season.; one touch goal off of cross into box
"

And 1-2 is the final.

Buffs actually end up with a slight advantage in shots (15-14), while the other team held a 5-2 shots on goal edge.

Buffs now need to finish the (regular) season off strong against the Utes this Friday, who had a strong result today - holding the #2 Trojans to a 0-0 tie.

Was at the match this afternoon. The Buffs really deserved this one, but were undone by a couple of defensive mistakes that gifted goals to UCLA. On the flip side, they were close to scoring multiple times themselves. A great game plan by Sanchez & Co., going to a 3-5-2 which allowed the Buffs to put a lot of high pressure on the Bruins while at the same time not risking too much on the back line. The team executed it very well.

Soccer is one of those games that can be very cruel and today's match was a prime example.

The Buffs will be very disappointed after this weeks losses, but they should be proud of the effort they put in.

Article on yesterday's match-

Hope some folks can make it out to senior day this Friday against the Utes.
