#21 ranked (per topdrawersoccer; unranked in the Coaches' poll) SOCCER (10-3-1 overall, 2-2-1 in Pac 12 play) has a single match this week as they head to L.A. to face the #7 (Topdrawersoccer) / #13 (coaches' poll) USC Trojans (9-2-0, 5-0-0) in a Saturday matinee..

In this week's official RPI report, the Buffs are at #57, while USC is #18 . (Not sure if it's a factor in soccer, but in a volleyball forum I read that something I hadn't heard of, KPI, is a primary criteria this season in tournament selection. Just in case that ranking (https://faktorsports.com/) is also going to be used in soccer, wanted to note that the Buffs are #53 and Trojans #9 in KPI right now.)

The match is showing available via a free live stream. (More detail and a link provided near the bottom of this post.)

Go Buffs!!!

LOS ANGELES – The Colorado Buffaloes are off to warmer weather this weekend, taking on No. 13 Southern California in the lone match of the weekend in Los Angeles. The Buffs will be looking to snap a two-game winless streak.

Colorado (10-3-1, 2-2-1 Pac-12) is coming off a strong performance against California last Sunday but got nothing to show for it in the scoreless draw. The Buffs controlled the match from the opening kick outshooting the Golden Bears 18-5 and 5-1 on target.

"It's been a great week of preparation," head coach Danny Sanchez noted. "Obviously, we're excited to get back out to Southern California. We have numerous players on our team from there, so we know that we'll have good support. USC is on a roll. They're healthy and have all their players back. We know that's going to be a huge challenge, but we're excited to get out there."

The draw against California extended CU's winless streak at home to three matches. The Buffs have a 6-3-1 record at Prentup Field this season, but remain unblemished on the road. CU has had just two Pac-12 matches away from its home pitch, picking up six of its seven points on its swing through Oregon.

"We've got some good results on the road," Sanchez added. "USC is a whole different level of challenge. Having said that, the weather will be good and as I said, we'll have some good support there from our SoCal supporters. We'll be ready to go."

Colorado is right in the middle of the Pac-12 standings, entering the weekend sixth in the conference. Stanford, UCLA and USC are tied with 15 points atop the rankings, making Saturday's match the Buffs' last chance to knock off one of the conference's top contenders.

"It has been a normal Pac-12 year," Sanchez commented. "Every team you're going to play is capable of getting a result against you, but you're also capable of getting a result against them. We don't look at it [this week] like that. We look at it as a single game weekend where we can throw it all out there and gameplan for one team and put our best foot forward."

USC (9-2-0, 5-0-0 Pac-12) moved up two spots this week to No. 13 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The Trojans have outscored conference opponents 14-1 in their five matches, recording seven goals last weekend against Oregon and Oregon State. Angeles Escobar is the reigning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, leading a defensive unit that allowed just 13 shots in two matches last week.

Saturday's kickoff is set for 1 p.m. MT and will be streamed online at CUBuffs.com/WatchSoc.

1 all is the halftime score.

The Buffs actually earned a 2nd penalty kick, but couldn't convert on 2 opportunities. (The goalie made an initial controlling save, but the ref ruled she'd left her line early. On the 2nd attempt, a different Buff took the kick, but the goalie was able to deflect the shot wide for a corner kick.)

these penalty kicks make you miss TK. Good draw on the road. Need to get a win in Washington

LOS ANGELES — Colorado's Shyra James recorded her career-high 12th goal of the season and in the process, helped the Buffaloes pick up a point in Saturday's 1-1 draw against the No. 13 Southern California Trojans.

Colorado remains at 10 wins, picking up its second consecutive draw to move to 10-3-2 on the season and 2-2-2 in the Pac-12. Saturday was the first blemish on the unbeaten card for the Trojans, going to 5-0-1 in Pac-12 play and 9-2-1 overall.

The draw pushes the Buffs' unbeaten streak on the road to five matches, holding strong at 4-0-1. It's the best road for CU since a six-game unbeaten streak in 2018.

"This was a tough match today and it's a tough stretch [for us]," head coach Danny Sanchez said after the result. "It doesn't get any easier next week at the Washingtons. It's a quick turnaround for us, but I really like the determination of the group. I was really pleased with how our backs played today and how we defended the midfield. We created more chances today than we did in the last couple of matches. I'm pleased with that and pleased with the result. We know playing at Washington State next week is going to be another huge challenge."

The Trojans jumped to the lead early on but the Buffs kept at it and responded seven minutes later.

USC outshot Colorado 19-9 overall but the shots on goal were even at six apiece.
...

"I was pleased with how we played in the second half," Sanchez expressed. "First, with how we defended. All their [USC's] best chances were all in the last five minutes. I thought before that we created some really good opportunities from the run of play but also some corner kicks where they cleared one off the line and we hit the post. We had some good chances today, but it was probably a fair result over 90 minutes."

Upcoming
Colorado will head back to Boulder for a quick breath before traveling back to the West Coast to take on Washington State (Thursday) and Washington (Sunday).

Notes
James moved into a tie for second on CU's season scoring list with 12 goals…She is now two goals away from tying Taylor Kornieck (39) for second all-time in career goals with 37…She became just the fourth CU player to reach 80 career points (37 G, 6 A)…James now has 26 points this season, tying her for seventh in a single season…Her 12 goals are tied for the most by a senior in CU history…James' goal was the 12 set-piece goal of the season for CU and the third penalty goal of the season…CU is now 3-for-4 on penalty attempts this season.
