As usual, the soccer team opens up the new academic year seasons for ALL CU sports tomorrow with a match at the Air Force, and then has its 1st home match Sunday against the Rams at Prentup Field. (No cubuffs preview article yet; assume tomorrow?)

Go get'um Buffs!!!

Coverage-
At Air Force (Thursday, 6:00 PM MT start)
Live video
(Looks free, but not sure) - http://www.themw.com/watch/?id=141866

Hosting CSU (Sunday, 3:30 PM MT start)
Free Live video stream - https://pac-12.com/live/pac-12-plus
Live stats (link to link) - https://cubuffs.com/sidearmstats/wsoc/summary

(Before the Buff's home opener, there are also two more Colorado Cup matches at Prentup, as Colorado College and Denver face off starting at 11:00 AM and Air Force and Northern Colorado are scheduled to start at 1:15 PM.)

Still no preview article on cubuffs.com.

Did just notice that the last of the four great positional summary articles in cubuffs that came out yesterday (on the Defenders, https://cubuffs.com/news/2018/8/15/soccer-defenders-preview.aspx?path=wsoc), although IT doesn't talk about the matches at all except for one sentence about opponent, place, date and time, does at least provide a link to the usual more detailed notes and stats sheet I assume the media is most likely to use. For this weekend's matches, those notes are at https://cubuffs.com/documents/2018/8/15//CU_Soccer_Game_Notes.pdf .
(Assume the cubuffs.com folk are still getting up and running for the new academic year. Hope not having match/ game/ event preview articles isn't a new trend.)

And, looks the 1st match of the year is in a weather delay. (Glad they're being safe.)

And it's 1-0 at the half.

I missed the goal (I was looking at different streaming options), but per livestats it was off a cornerkick, with freshman Jesse Loren being credited with the assist on fellow- freshman's Webb goal.

I don't know if you're having problems streaming it too, but I just realized that I can get it on my tv through Sling TV

From the little bit of this match that I've seen the Buffs have been dominating. Bigger, faster, and stronger.

A couple BEAUTIFUL short passes in the box leads to a Taylor Barton goal. 2-0 Buffs!

From livestats - "GOAL by COLO Barton, Tatum, Assist by Puketapu, Marty, goal number 1 for season. [69:14]"

Great chance for the Buffs, but just knocked over the crossbar by the goalie

GGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful move by Kornieck who gets in alone and makes it 3-0.

"GOAL by COLO Kornieck, Taylor, goal number 1 for season. [89:00]" (Off beaurtiful leading ball by Zuniga.)

And 3-0 is the final. CU passing precision looked to pick up a lot in the 2nd half.

Way to go BUFFS!!!

Overall, 3 was about the minimum the Buffs could have scored tonight, as the AFA goalie (who was 1st team all-league last season) had 3-5 great saves, and the Buffs also had at least another 2 off the post, and had another goal taken away on a nice back heel shot from a few yards out when the Buff was unfortunately just a tad off-side.

Article after tonight's win - https://cubuffs.com/news/2018/8/16/...ith-3-0-victory-over-air-force.aspx?path=wsoc

"
COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. – Colorado opened the season with a 3-0 victory over Air Force on Friday. Kayleigh Webb, Tatum Barton and Taylor Kornieck contributed a goal each, as 21 CU players saw action.
...

KEY STATISTICS: Colorado outshot Air Force by a final tally of 15-4, with the shots on goal breakdown standing at 9-3 in favor of the Buffaloes. 21 players on Colorado's 24-person roster saw action in Friday's victory, with freshmen Kayleigh Webband Jesse Loren leading the team in minutes played with 75 a piece.
...

UP NEXT: CU will return home to Prentup Field to host in-state rival Colorado State at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

CU v CSU in less than 24 hours. CSU played to a 110 minute draw with DU 1-1 on Thursday night at DU. CSU's "goal" was actually a DU own goal. DU put in the equalizer less than 10 minutes later. Several CSU players went the entire 110 minutes.

I'll have a few mixed emotions at the match as a former student of mine is a starter for CSU. This doesn't mean I won't be pulling for the Buffs big time.
