Kind of a bizarre schedule to be on the road & at home the same week for conference games.

Kind of a bizarre schedule to be on the road & at home the same week for conference games.

Seems to be a Pac vball scheduling practice for the Utah ("travel partner"/ "rivalry") matches (home and away) to I believe always be the 1st and last matches of the season, and the matches with the 2 schools we only play once in a season (the Bay Area schools this season) also on the 1st and last weekend. Not sure about why it's home and away the same weekends this season, though. (Looks like the prior 2 years the schedule for the 1st and last weekends did combine the 2 home and 2 road matches into the same weekend.) Just guessing it may be because one of the other schools (or maybe even the Buffs) requested it due to a scheduling conflict, maybe the last weekend when basketball has started up and uses the same facilities? Or, a TV scheduling thing?

Anyways, best wishes to the vball team this weekend- get the W's! (At least based on current poll rankings, this is the toughest weekend all season.)

In WBB, we usually play Utah home and away the same week.

Happy that I can watch the Friday match on television. Looks like I get to watch the Stanford match on television also.

Utah defense dominates the last 1/2 of the set (their blockers touching almost everything, and their back row also making nice digs when needed) and get the 14-25 win in set 1.

A match of extremes- Buffs have dug themselves a hole in the 3rd set- take a timeout after giving up 4 straight points and going down 7-13.

Buffs play better late, but can't come all the way back from what became a big deficit (up to 12-20 and 15-23) and lose the 3rd 20-25.

Buffs going to have to pick it up- after going up 5-4 in the 4th after a successful challenge, they've given up 4 straight points and call a timeout.

Buffs use their last timeout for the set- down 10-15. (Coach Mahoney was pissed after his challenge of what looked like an obvious no block touch on a Ute attack which went long but called a touch was NOT reversed earlier in the set.)

Buffs lose the 4th 17 -25 and the match 1 set to 3.

Need to shake it off and get ready for the Trees.

Match starting in less than 20 minutes. Best wishes to the volleyball team- let's see a repeat from 2015 and get the home win over the (now defending national champions) Cardinal!

(As often happens in the momemtum-crazy world of volleyball, the key to the 2nd set may have been late in the 1st, when after getting to 24-15, it took the Buffs 5 points before they could close out that set. This almost always seem to give the advantage to the team that got the late run, even if it didn't lead to a victory in that set itself.)

No- after winning a marathon set 3 29-27, the Buffs lose set 4 by the same score- it's going 5.

Get this deciding set Buffs!

Heartbreaker for the Buffs (esp. after having 2 match points in the 4th) as they drop the 5th 12-15.

Still a great effort against one of the top teams in the nation. Hope they shake it off and get ready for the Oregons next week.
