Doesn't look good for this project.

I would feel bad but some of their fans are such idots that I kinda feel they deserve this. It's feasible that they might be a FCS soon.

This is the issue with CSU. I like CSU but I hate almost all of their fans. I find myself rooting against them just because their fans. It would be nice if CU and CSU were 10 wins per season schools instead of 10 wins per 3 season schools. The local media would, hopefully, embrace college athletics.
I don't see anything new in that article that suggests the plans won't go through. And as for Sparkles leaving in 2 years, he better hope he has success, or he will have even worse options this time around. Plus he has a pretty solid contract already with little possibility for a raise
Yeah - but you can see them backpeddling on the stadium. I think it has to happen now, but the funding obviously isn't there. Whatever they build is going to have to be significantly scaled back from the original proposal.

Smart CSU fan:
Of course other CSU fans are lambasting (hehe) him for that.
and that is how I feel we are different, sure we would like a bigger stadium, but I think for most of us, it is really low on the priority list. We don't have these delusions of grandeur that we can fill a stadium no matter how big it is. Let's get a better product on the field, fill our existing seats, raise ticket prices, then build more seats.

I'm also sensing that...Frank is taking more seriously the possibility that it might be necessary [to keep using Hughes].Why?
Money.
I can make a reasonable argument against the stadium, and many have done so, focusing on the practicality of the project.
If there's any chance —anychance — CSU will have to dip into its general fund, the answer has to be no.
If the pledges, informal or otherwise, don't roll in to minimize both the amount that would have to be borrowed and the risk, the answer must be no.
If I were a CSU alum, this is what I'd be thinking now: Whatever his decision is, it's going to be the right one for the university.
I'm not so sure. I get the impression that Terri Frei has gotten "in" with the AD up in FOCO recently with the series of articles he's written about the stadium issue. If you accept that premise, then it's not implausible to think that Graham and Frank might be using Frei to spin the message:
To me, this reads like the AD planting their words in the article as preemptive damage control: "Hey, we wanted to do it, the money wasn't there and this is the best interests of the university as a whole."
and, ugh:

Akron built their 27k stadium for $61.6 million. Like CSU and UCF, they used to play off campus.
All those stadiums look perfectly fine for on campus, and I think Akron is the best model for the Rams. Same scope, but also enclose the endzones for an additional 10k of seats for not much more cost (they are going to be concrete on the ground mostly). They could then leave the side opposite the press box and behind the stands open for future expansion if the demand ever dictates it. That press box/club box structure is rather fugly though, so I might add a few more dollars to make it nicer, and maybe only two stories (with more club seats in front). But I can't see that entire project costing more than $80 million. Look at all the smaller to mid sized stadiums that other non- big time programs have, even at the lower BCS level (like Wazzu, K_State, Iowa State, all the big east outside of WVU and Pitt, etc). They were built smallish to begin with and upgraded as demand increased and the extra space was needed. No one really builds a new stadium from the ground up, especially at the tune of $250 million dollars. Minnesota did, with $150 million from MN STATE coffers (over 1/2 the cost).
Seems like proposing something that's actually sensible would be in the best interest of CSU and their administration. Then it might actually get done.
I'm in total agreement - they need to think small. Build a 20K stadium and fill it. Then move into bigger digs when the demand is there.
Bingo. I'm sure Minnesota's new oncampus stadium wouldn't have looked as good without state help. The bigger question is will it ever have gotten built? CSU will not be able to get state help in this case unless the voters give their ok. Can you imagine CU, UNC, AFA, and other instate fans rallying to vote yes for that project? Minnesota is also the only fully D1 school within that state so state support wouldn't be a big issue in that case as is many B1G schools.
You are correct about KSU...their stadium was truly a dump before Bill Snyder came and you could say the same thing about Oklahoma State but the Cowboys did it with Boone Pickens' oil money. KSU fans have been supportive of their football program. The stadium was 43k until 1998 before it was expanded. No school money is being used for their current project.
Iowa State's stadium started at 42,500 and now it's at 55,000. There is talk that they will expand again next year perhaps to 65k. Iowa State fans have done a very respectable job of supporting their team in the last decade.
What has CSU's fans done to deserve a stadium as grand as Minnesota's new stadium?
I support CSU's stadium drive but at the same time I think they need to come to their senses and start at 30k.
Iowa State is funding pretty much everything on loans secured against future Big 12 media revenues. This is, obviously, not an option for CSU.

UCF built their 45k seat stadium for just $55 million. And even if the goats don't sell out a stadium like that, there's always advertising tarps.

Not sure Akron is the model CSU is looking for. According to this review, there is some buyers remorse within the Zips AD due to terrible attendance in year 2 and beyond. The 3-9 and 1-11 records just killed interest in the program amongst students. Ouch.

The school recently approved beer sales for 2012 to juice interest in a team with a losing record over the past six seasons. So they have that going for them.
