Selection Process

Preliminary Championships Competition
Qualification to the preliminary championships competition of the championships is based on the descending-order list for the season, segregated by east and west sites. For each individual event (20 for each gender) contested at each of the preliminary championships competition sites, the top 48 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested at each of the preliminary championships competition sites, the top 24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition. The stated maximums are absolute and will not be extended as a result of ties.

Announcement of Student-Athletes into Preliminary Championships
The list of student-athletes, by event, who have been accepted to compete in each preliminary championships competition, plus those who have been accepted to compete in the heptathlon or decathlon at the final championships competition, will be announced on on Thursday, May 16, by 1 p.m. ET. Additionally those who have been accepted to compete in the heptathlon or decathlon at the final championships competition will be announced at this time.

Combined Events
The heptathlon and decathlon events are not contested at the preliminary championships competition. Qualification to the championships in these two events is accomplished through a competitor’s position on the national descending order list. The top 24 declared student-athletes in each of these two events will be accepted into the national championships.

Qualifying to the Final Championships Competition
Qualifying to the final championships competition is accomplished through performance in the preliminary championships competition at each site for events contested at those competitions. Twelve competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event advance from each preliminary championships competition site to the final championships competition. Qualification, through competition in an event at a preliminary championships competition, is required to participate in that event at the final championships competition.

Announcement of Student-Athletes into Final Championships
The list of student-athletes, by event, who have been qualified from the preliminary championships competition will be announced on the on Sunday, May 26, by 5 p.m. ET.

The descending order list for men is located at here and the descending order list for women is located here. The qualifying window for the 2013 championships begins on March 1.

The NCAA track and field championships start Wednesday in Eugene, Ore., at the electric Hayward Field. Portions of the meet will be live streamed here all four days, while the rest of the championships will be shown on ESPN3.com or ESPNU. You can find the live stream and TV schedules here in addition to live results and other info. You also can follow along via Twitter below and see an event-by-event schedule for the entire championships here. Finally, check Pac-12.com at the end of each day for results and a recap.

Looks like there are 2 groups of 12 people with 6 rounds each. Her first round was 58.57m (192-2 ) which was good for 9th out the the 1st group.

With a 62.38 (204-8 ) 2nd round, she is currently in 4th. 1st place is 65.16m (213-9 ).

60.93m (199.11 ) in the 3rd round and still in 4th. 1st place is now 67.65m (221-11 ).

It looks like how it works is that there are 3 rounds in each "flight" of 12 people. The top 9 advance to the finals. Emily Hunsucker is in 4th with the first flight done which may be good enough for her to advance.

Her 62.38 (204-8 ) is now only good for 7th place after the first round of flight 2. Hopefully she can hold on.

Emily Hunsucker holds on to the final qualifying spot in 9th place by 1 inch to advance to the finals. I believe the finals will be held right after this but I'm not sure.

She will need to beat at least 68.22m (223-10 ) which is the current top score to win the NCAA title.

Emily with a 59.31m (194-7 ) to start the finals. The scores continue from the semis so that will keep her in 9th until at least her next throw.

57.48m (188-7 ) in the second to last round and her best remains 62.38m (204-8 ). Emily will need more than 18 feet more than her best to win this.

That's it, Emily fouls on her final throw and will finish in 9th place and her Buffs career is now over. Congratulations to her on a great career and congratulations to Chelsea Cassulo of Arizona State on winning the national championship on her final throw of 69.12m (226-9 ) beating the previous top mark of 68.51m (224-9 ).

That looks like that is it for the Buffs today, they will be back competing tomorrow. I could be wrong but when I find out I'll post it.

Aric van Halen should be competing in the 3000m steeplechase at 6:45pm PT today.

Joe Morris finished tied for 4th in heat 1. The top 2 from each of the 3 heats advance to the finals plus the next 2 fastest.

With 1 more heat remaining, it looks like Joe Morris will not qualify for the finals in the 100m.

3 laps to go Van Halen in 2nd, I think top 3 advance and next 2 best, but not positive

It's top 5 get automatics spots, 1/2 lap to go and Van Halen looks like he'll make it

NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Thanks for the highlights.

Go Buffs.

Joe Morris will lead things off for the Buffs today at 4:15pm in the 200m.
