We here!!

But despite our Buffaloes dominating the news in the college football world again this week there are other games.

Just like last week most of the highly ranked teams are laying it all on the line against a murderers row of joke opponents.

We can be certain that fans everywhere spent the entire off-season waiting to see (1) Georgia battle it out against Ball State (0-1) and (2) Michigan bring in mighty UNLV (1-0.)

At least those opponents are BCS level programs with a pulse, (5) Ohio State is treating their fans to a “game?” against FCS Youngstown State. (7) Penn State with a Ph.D program in covering up abuse by the football program is in a battle with a bunch of chickens, not even roosters, hens bringing in the Delaware Blue Hens (1-0) from FCS who to their credit did beat Navy last year.

We start the week's slate on Thursday with Louisville (1-0) hosting, surprise an FCS program Murray State (1-0) Was Marvin State not available?

Friday night we have a contest between two undefeated power 5 programs with Illinois (1-0) at Kansas (1-0.) These two rarely get the word power associated with them and followers of college football may be shocked (Rock chock??) that one will be undefeated after a couple weeks of the season.

Saturday does offer a mix of quality games between P5 schools mixed in with a lot of mismatches.

The biggest game of the week has to be (3) Bama hosting (11) Texas. The SEC rarely sees its big programs play OOC games against quality opponents but this year they have multiple games on the schedule and so far it hasn’t been positive for them with Florida and LSU both losing.

Will Texas take down a future conference competitor? Texas has talent but they always seem to have talent. Maybe no other program in the last 20+ years has done less with their talent than Texas.

The weeks other match of top 25 teams has (20) Ole Miss visiting (24) Tulane. If Tulane from the AAC (not ACC) could knock of a ranked SEC team that would be one of the bigger stories of the week and huge for the conference.

Other games of interest include (23) Texas A&M at Miami (the one in the cockroach state) (1-0) Weird uniforms (for the fans) visits hookers and blow.

Also have the battle for the state of Iowa with Iowa (1-0) at Iowa State (1-0.) This is a game that is often boring for everyone else but has a huge emotional draw for the people of porkbellies and soybeans. No offense but the Hawkeyes have no offense, but are still likely better than the Cyclones who nobody wants to clone.

An interesting but rarely played rivalry sends Cincinnati (1-0) to Pittsburgh (1-0.)

This weeks garbage game was hard to pick among many qualified contenders. Again the New Mexico Lo Blows (0-1) get the honor. Losers of 10 straight games, all by double figures, bring in Tennessee Tech (0-1) who is a mediocre FCS team. If New Mexico loses this one it will be hard to find another win on their schedule this year.

Unlike some other conferences that specialize in using this time of the year to pad their records most of the PAC12 teams are playing legitimate opponents this week .

(12) Utah is at Baylor (0-1) who after losing to Texas State last may have to recruit a whole new generation of felons to regain competitiveness.

(13) Oregon is at Texas Tech (0-1), (8) Washington brings in Tulsa (1-0,) Cal (1-0) will try to keep the score close against visiting Auburn, and likely fail.

Washington State (1-0) who last week sheared the hope off the sheep host (19) Wisconsin. A win would likely propel the Cougars into the rankings

In an early conference game matching longtime rivals (6) USC (2-0) host Stanford (1-0)

Good news for CSU, they won’t lose this week. Only because they don’t play. They have an extra week to prepare for the biggest game of their season, their loss to the Buffaloes.

Air Force (1-0) is at Sam Houston (0-1) It’s one thing to play directional schools but are schools named after dead people another step down?

Wyoming (1-0) after beating a power 5 team at home last week should have an easier time with FCS Portland State (0-1) coming in.

Northern Colorado (0-1) hosts Incarnate Word (0-1) There may be no word for how bad UNC is this year.

Big weekend for the local small colleges

Last weekend Mines, Western, and Pueblo all got big wins against non-conference opponents.

This weekend Mines (1-0) visits Luke and DBT country playing at Angelo State (1-0) who Mines beat last year in the playoffs on the way to the championship game.

Pueblo (1-0) goes to Grand Valley State (0-1) who lost a close one at Mines last week. Grand Valley was also a #1 seed in last years playoffs.

Western (1-0) hosts a program I had never been aware of before, University of Texas Permian Basin (1-0) UTPB has a short history in football losing more than they have won but last week won their opener in a close 96-0 nailbiter. Scary to think what they could do against Fort Lewis.

Speaking of Fort Lewis (0-1) some programs seek excellence, they pursue ineptitude. This week they go to Arizona Christian (0-1) to take their beating.

11 top 25 teams (as of now) play P5 opponents next week BUT 5 are conference games.

Last week, 8 top 25 teams played P5 opponents (including CU) BUT 2 were conference games.

Stating the obvious, but P5 scheduling these days is friggin' joke.

We're playing one of the most interesting games of the weekend - love to see it.
Two straight weeks with the premium slot on the Fox main network, everybody in the country gets our games without having to go looking for them.

Last week after our game I was so emotionally spent that my concentration on other games was far below where it normally would be.

I love that you prepare this for us. However, there are no other games this weekend except for the game in Boulder.

We had massive viewership numbers last weekend, and the hype train that has been this week had hardly left the station, given that we hadn't won yet.

Texas-Alabama is a dang good game, but we're right there with it.

People should keep in mind that prior to Bitsy and her bunch of cowardly idiots destroying our program CU was on national TV in prime slots as often as anyone.

With the talent we had we were fun to watch but we also were a program that had national support, people liked to follow CU all over the country.

It can't be overstated how important it is that Prime is returning us to that position.

College football is in turmoil, conferences are completely re-aligning. We are likely to see at some time in the next few years a division in college football between the haves and the have nots and a big part of that division is going to be determined by which schools generate the viewership and thus the television revenues.

Big 12 Power Rankings Week 2

1. KSU
2. Oklahoma
3. UCF
4. Texas
5. Kansas
6. Cincinnati
7. Houston
8. Oklahoma State
9. Iowa State
10. BYU
11. TCU
12. Texas Tech
13. WVU
14. Baylor

This week's Big 12 games:

Illinois @ Kansas
Utah @ Baylor
Troy @ KSU
Southern Utah @ BYU
Iowa @ Iowa State
SMU @ Oklahoma
Duquense @ WVU
Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh
Texas @ Alabama
Oregon @ Texas Tech
UCF @ Boise State
Houston @ Rice
Nichols @ TCU
Oklahoma State @ Arizona State

Is it basketball season already? You would have thought so with Illinois at Kansas.

Before Bama's new QB broke out, I thought there was a chance UT would win at Bama but nope. Bama will want to show UT what SEC football is about. Could be one big Bevo BBQ.

Utah should beat Baylor and they might want to keep Rising on the bench for one more game since the Utes host Weber State next week for another ho-hum game for the Utes.

If Iowa State whoops Iowa, that could be the end of the Frentz regime in Iowa City. What's the betting line on this game?

Oklahoma gives SMU a rude welcome to P4 football.

Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh...don't see enough games like that but the Big 12 would be happy to see a Bearcat win in this case.

Oregon will get the Lubbock treatment since UT and OU do not visit that hellhole this year on their way out of the Big 12.

UCF will have to deal with Boise State who didn't like the treatment they received in Seattle last weekend.

OSU @ ASU...I think ASU wins that one because OSU is said to be having a down season this year.

Rest of the games are garbage.

Good football weekend for the 66 family. I am flying into Denver tomorrow for our game and my son is driving to Bama tomorrow night with 7 other Horns for the Texas game.

should have ranked CU #1

Those punching bag games have to stop. Thinking these huge conferences will end them.
I am proud to be a Buff. We have always scheduled aggressive
The conferences are made up of the schools and the big programs have no interest in stopping them.

They can bring in a cheap opponent for a guaranteed win and sell the place out at regular ticket prices. At the end of the year they have a guaranteed win on their record and the money in the bank.

The only way they get stopped is if the media companies paying for the broadcast rights tell them the next time they are negotiating TV contracts that they expect a certain number of the out of conference games to be available each of the first couple weeks involving power conference opponents.

The TV people should be mad. Last weekend, first full schedule of games, no competition from NFL games, and they ended up filling a bunch of quality time slots with garbage games that don't get fans to tune in and don't get fans excited about the rest of the season.

Fox has to be loving that they got TCU-Colorado. If this were still the Dorrell Buffs it as well would have been a garbage game but the network got one of the most compelling start to finish games in recent years. They got star power, they got spectacular scoring with the teams going back and forth and a game that was up for grabs into the last minute.

This was the kind of game that makes people fans of college football, last weekend and this weekend have far too few of those on the schedule.

Seeing a top 5 teams backups blow out some FCS school by 50 doesn't build the product.

The only way cupcake scheduling ends is if the rewards for playing a challenging opponent outweigh the risks. Maybe if a school's media revenue was a function of the tv ratings of its games instead of a pre-negotiated figure based on existing as a member of a conference?

Who knows what changes could be coming soon, but changes they be coming. The pac-12 demise mixed in with the spectrum/Disney(ESPN) dispute is the canary in the coalmine that the cable bundle and thus sports media revenue is ****ed. New ways will have to be invented, and streaming is not gonna be the sole answer.

I think Utah and Oregon should be on low-key upset alert.

Both are on the road against teams that are better than they showed in week one, in weird places to play.

Utah is def better than ****bailer, but ****bailer isn't lose to Texas St bad. TTU is obviously better than Wyo, but strange things happen in Laramie, just like strange things happen in Lubbock.

In a vacuum, both of these games should be 2 - 3 TD wins for the visitors, but ****bailer and TTU are going to be embarrassed and wanting to show they don't suck as bad as they showed last week.

I still think both Utah and Oregon win, but it might be tighter than they expect, and I wouldn't be super surprised if one of them got tripped up.

We're playing one of the most interesting games of the weekend - love to see it.
If we win, it’ll be crazy to see how they spin interest for next week. I can’t imagine ANYONE gives a **** about the RMS…so let’s see how this works out.

I think really low key. Baylor and TTU are pretty much what they showed last week.

Maybe. I don't think they're challenge for the Big 12 good, but I don't know if they're losing to Texas State and Wyoming bad, either.

Still, it would take a combination of overconfidence by the visitors, big time motivation to show they're not who they showed last week by the home teams, and some home cooking to get it done.

I could see it happening because I doubt the Pac-12 could even put together a "**** you" season in their last year. Undoubtedly the best top to bottom the conference has ever been since expansion, and they'll **** it up.

Baylor sucks.

They're as bad as their week 1 result.

It's going to be a beat down.
Baylor wasn't going to be good coming into this year.

Now they have lost their starting QB Blake Shapen for at least 2-3 weeks with a knee injury. His backup is a significant step down.

They have to Louisville -Murray State game on the ACC Network which I get.

I will generally watch whatever college football I can get, this one is unwatchable. 28-0 at half and not close to close a game. These two teams have no business playing each other.

Gave it about 10 minutes and switched to the pro game.

Same. And SAME! What sucked was, my wife was super excited for Thursday night college football - she had the day off, was making nachos…then that happened. We ended up watching (gasp) pro football for a little bit.

Kansas maybe turning up an ass whuppin' on Illinois right now. Up 21-0 with 3 minutes left in 1st half.
Is it possible our toughest competition in the Big XII next year will be from the state of Kansas?!?!?
