Pac 12 players threaten opt-out of 2020 CFB season unless health and safety and other demands are met

This probably needs its own thread, because the Pac-12 Players probably just changed the way college athletics operates for good, and it's not to go back the way it was after covid is over.

I'm sure the good ol' boys in the Big 12, ACC, and especially SEC are running around trying to put a damper on this, but college athletes everywhere are pissed off. I don't see this being contained to the Pac-12.

This is a huge opportunity for the PAC to set themselves apart as a destination conference for athletes and regain all of the ground lots to the Big 10 and the $EC. Unfortunately this too will likely be pissed down the PAC’s leg, but they could really do something here and get out ahead of other conferences. The Big 10 won’t be far behind.

Facility spending has gotten completely out of hand but I think too many writers generalize all programs. Cu built a player lounge with tvs and a pool table which isn’t unnecessary at all. I get having a lazy river is crazy but a lot of programs built functional facilities for their student athletes.

I also laughed out loud about player having to pick up the weight room to look good after their lift weights, was that a serious criticism ?

I can assure you that other CU students are under no so such obligation, based on my time at the CU Rec Center.

Like all negotiations, there are going to be some easy demands and some that aren’t possible. This could be massive for the pac 12 going forward. Hopefully, they keep Larry Scott as far away as possible.
Also, my question is, if the demands aren’t met, then what? It’s not like they have a players union and they all go on strike. I am guessing other athletes have signed off on this but didn’t want their names printed? If it’s only the ones listed, the the pac 12 presidents and ad’s will just laugh this away.

Yes but high school teams clean up their weight room, so a team of over 100 kids can’t pick up their ****?
Re-racking your weights, and checking to make sure the team logo is lined up is the difference being pointed out. I don't take it as a serious criticism, but more of a metaphor that your job is to make the program look good, not to be a student athlete.

I think it’s a great lesson for these kids in accountability, discipline, attention to detail, and taking pride in their facilities.

Goodbye WSU football.

“Come play football at the school who cut players and yanked their scholarships for voicing their opinions.”
