NCAA Basketball: Brooklyn Showcase-Colorado at Miami (FL)

A shorthanded Buffs team will face off against the Huskies tonight

Colorado opens their conference slate against Washington in just under an hour, but the Buffs are going to have to play tonight without four of their key players. Tristan da Silva, Cody Williams, Bangot Dan and RJ Smith will not be dress for tonight’s bout with the Huskies.

Williams has been battling a nagging wrist injury for a couple weeks. Colorado’s star freshman has missed the Buffs’ last three games, including their upset win against Miami in Brooklyn. Many were hopeful that Williams would return for the start of conference play on Friday night, but we’ll have to wait just a bit longer to see him return to the floor.

Da Silva’s absence comes as a bit of a shocker. There were some brief rumors that something happened during practice on Thursday and the Colorado forward had to leave and couldn’t return, but nothing was confirmed. Da Silva hit the floor for warmups Friday night in street clothes and a crutch, indicating some sort of ankle injury may have occurred during yesterday’s practice. The Buffs’ will now be without their one of their best shooters and biggest leaders on the court against the Huskies.

Bench contributors Bangot Dak and RJ Smith will also be unavailable against Washington. Dak is battling an illness and will likely return for Sunday’s game against Washington State, while RJ Smith is out indefinitely with a lower-leg injury.

KJ Simpson, J’vonne Hadley, Eddie Lampkin and Luke O’Brien will now have to find a way to beat Washington while being down four impact players. Conference play tips off at 7:00 pm at the CU Event Center. Fans can watch how Tad and the Buffs try to maneuver around this tricky situation on ESPNU.
